We have had a Humax PVR-9150T Freeview Playback Digital TV Recorder connected to our Sony TV for about 3 years. One day recently it stopped recording, so we checked all the leads, which appeared to be in order. Funnily enough, the next day it did record several programmes, but it hasn't recorded anything since. Though quite a number of programmes are on the HDD, there is still about 15% free. Any suggestions? With thanks, Mr. Richard Bemand

Simple test: try to access, view and delete several programs. If you can do that then the fault is in the hdd - either it's full and you need to wipe more programs to free more space or the disk itself is dying. If it's the latter recover whatever programs from it you can, while you still can, and replace it.
If you can't access the programs but no error message is displayed it's the firmware/processor of the box - they are failing . Start saving for a new unit, this one is circling the drain.

The humax keeps on messaging that the antane cable is short circuited. is this an internal problem or a problem with the aerial itsefl

The Humax PVR-150T will definitely have problems using an indoor set top aerial; this is true of almost all Freeview receivers. Freeview signals are typically hundreds of times weaker than terrestrial transmissions and if you've managed with a set top aerial so far it's been working more by luck than design. I find that most set top aerials are so badly made that they're often faulty when new, but as most tend to flogged cheaply at markets and car boot sales the supply chain has no incentive to improve the product.

There has recently been a national Freeview retune, to complete this correctly your box needs the kind of solid and reliable signal which you cannot get with a set top aerial. Some receivers had compatibility issues with the retune and in many cases manufacturers broadcast OAD's (Over Air Downloads) to update the firmware in the boxes to be compatible. OAD's almost never successfully install via set top aerials.

There is an official list of Freeview devices which are known to have problems with the retune; unfortunately it has not proven to be a comprehensive list. The Humax MG-TU1 is one of those which have had problems and from memory it's closely related to your Humax PVR. The official advice is that you contact Humax directly on 0870 247 8800, but they'll probably instruct you to test your box using the aerial system it's designed to use before they'll be interested in offering further assistance.

HUMAX PVR-9150T : REMOTE CONTROL DOES NOT TALK TO BOX - This has only happened recently and is not a battery issue. The box displays green lights on ''standby'' and ''tv'' I have tried reset, but cannot...

I also have this same problem. Freezes after about 30 seconds to a minute after switching on. Think it is possibly related to the program listings sent to it. May be some error. How do I fix though???

Humax digital recorder picture freeze every 10 minutes

Humax are having problems and are starting to send out software upgrades (night-time updates) - seems to be related to the new formats on the MUXs for the digital switch-over. Our 9150T hasn't been fixed yet but due any day (I hope)
