Try another monitor. If that doesn't work reinstall your video drivers with control panel system device manager.

My control menu is locked and is displayed on the screen. cannot remove it. What do I do to get this off my screen

Its not clear if you mean control panel by control menu? to kill any process/program/application that is not secured by OS, you can use task manager: Press ctrl+alt+del together and choose task manager depending upon your OS. In the application list, you can choose the task you want to end, just select and press End Task underneath it. Also in the next tab 'Processes', select taskmgr.exe and click End process.

If nothing works you can cold reboot the system, by pressing and holding power button for 10 seconds or more switching the system off. Hope it works.

Computer freezes, computer stuck

There could be a number of causes for a computer freezing up, or not responding all together.

-If your computer frequently freezes up, lags, or is slow, this could be because of poor performance. At some point in the future after a computer is purchased, the hardware will be to old for it to handle newer programs. In a lot of cases you will need to purchase a new computer or upgrade the processor, memory, hard drive and motherboard. This usually is not needed for a number of years. There are a number of programs you can use to monitor your computer performance. I would recommend starting off with task manager which is built into Microsoft Windows.

To use task manager, press Ctrl + alt + delete on your keyboard. Task manager should open up. In task manager go to the performance tab. In this tab, you can see various computer statistics. I recommend you have this open around the time you experience poor computer performance or hang ups.

-Another possible cause is the computer is overheating. Overheating can be caused by having a computer in a poor ventilated space. It can also be caused by internal computer fans that have stopped working. Some computers will have a auto shut down when temperatures get to high.

Make sure your computer is a ventilated room with good air flow.

If computer fans are no longer working, make sure the fan cables are plugged firmly into the motherboard. You will have to turn the computer off, open up the computer to do this. Make sure you have no static on yourself or you could damage the computer. Touch something metal before doing this or use a anti-static mat/wrist strap.

You can use a program called SpeedFan to monitor computer temperatures.

-Sometimes after you install software, new updates or new device drivers this can cause software bugs that will crash the computer, cause it to freeze up or not properly boot. If this is the case, you will want to uninstall the software you installed before the problem started. If you are unable to do this, you can boot your computer into safe mode and use System Restore which will restore the computer to a earlier working state.

To check updates and uninstall them in Windows, you can go to Add and Remove programs through Control Panel.
You can uninstall device drivers by going to Device Manager through Control Panel.

To perform a System Restore, go to Start > programs > Accessories or System tools > System Restore. Choose a restore point before the problem started.

If you are unable to boot into windows all the way, then you can boot into safe mode to work on the problem. Safe Mode will basically only load the necessary files needed for Windows to operate. While the computer is booting, keep pressing F8(make sure to do this before the windows screen shows) and you should get a menu. Choose Safe Mode. Once your computer boots into windows you can perform the steps above.

-G33k

Solve black screen after windows bootup

After logging on there is no desktop, task bar, system tray or side bar. Instead you are left with a totally black screen and a single My Computer Explorer window. Even this window might be minimized making it hard to see.
1. Restart the Computer and login with the login and password that you use.

2. If the black screen appears and there is no icon visible on screen, Press the “ALT + CTRL + DEL” keys on the keyboard together.

3. A windows will appear with option to launch Task Manager, Simply Launch Task Manager.

4. On Task Manager, go to Application Tab and Click on New Task

5. Now type "explorer.exe" in the task window and click run.

I HAVE A WINDOW XP HOME EDITION AND WHEN I START MY COMPUTER THE ONLY THING THAT COMES UP IS THE BACKGROUND. THERE ARE NO ICONS OR A BAR AT BOTTOM OF SCREEN.

the icons and the bar(task bar) at the bottom of the screen are enabled by the explorer.exe file

it starts automatically but in your case it is not starting

to start it when your computer starts and comes at the desktop, press alt+ctrl+delete button at the same time to bring up the task manager

when you do this a task manager shows up in a window

in task manager window click on file, it will be located on the top left portion on task manager

now click on "new task(run)"

this opens another window, in that window type
"explorer"
without the quotes "" and press enter
this will bring you icons and task bar at the bottom of the screen

Monitor keeps hibernating, can't make it stop, pixel issue.

Hey,

I think this is more of a problem on your computer instead of the monitor, ofcourse you could try another monitor and see if the same happens. I suspect your computer goes into standby or hibernation on its own, and it does work fine if you reset the computer right?

if you go into power management again, disable or turn off hibernation completely, its on one of the pages.
Make sure its not set to standby, and also disable your screen saver.

Right click on desktop - properties - then screensaver. turn it to none.

Also you could look into the computer bios and make sure its not set to standby or hibernation from there. thats unlikely but you could check.

how to get into bios.. depends on the computer, right when you turn it on, on one of the corners of the screen you will get a message, press button to enter setup or bios. press that to enter bios when its presented.

look around the bios and poweroptions.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Hello,
When your computer boots and reaches to the background screen, press ctrl+alt+del and see if Task Manager appears.
If it does, then go to File, New Task (Run) and type explorer.exe and press enter. Your desktop should appear. It may have accidentally been removed from startup.

If it does not, then it might need a repair or recovery due to loss of files.

Thanks,
Lolita
