A new battery last two weeks. Now the battery cables are sparking and melting the battery terminals, and yes they are hooked up right.

Are you sure it's hooked up right? The mower should blow a fuse before it melts the cables except if the cables are reversed. Check any light wiring. Headlight wiring in the grill is notorious for arching, causing battery damage.

I have Yardman, MTD, 13 HP, 38", 6 speed. Put in new spark plug and new battery. Started first time and successive times (2), battery is completely drained. Can be jumped and started and will mow, but when it is shut off, there isn't any battery to restart. What would be draining the battery or not allowing it to recharge????

Can I jump start a john deere 445

Yes, you can jump start it with any 12 volt battery on any vehicle. Just do not have the donor vehicle running. Connect the positive cable from the donor battery to the positive post on the battery on the mower. Then connect the negative cable from the donor battery to the engine block or other ground source on the mower. Do not connect it to the negative post on the battery. Make sure you have a good connection on bare metal for the negative cable. Disconnect the negative cable the instant the mower starts.

Want start

The batteries sold (and supplied with) for mowers are marginal at best. If you are fairly sure the battery is OK, tighten all the connections between it and the starter; at the battery (remove and clean if crusty), at the point at which the negative is attached to the chassis, at the in- and output terminals of the solenoid (follow the positive cable, you'll find it) and finally at the starter itself.
It is safest (for you and the battery) to DEtach the negative battery cable before you start with the other connections and reattach it last. A slipped wrench can cause a shower of sparks that won't do the wrench or the battery any good,

How do I install a lawn mower battery

Have you ever installed a car battery is about the same but for the mower on each post there are holes to put bolts through and you hold the bolts with nuts the red wire goes to the positive which on most batteries has a + sign above it and the black wire goes on the negative which will more then likely have a - sign above it.Now to review red to + and black to - ok. Good luck.

Replaced battery for lawn tractor and nothing happens.

You probably just blew the fuse behind the ignition or the fuse link on the power to solenoid.
