Can't upload videos to computer

hi, i am having problems getting my computer to recognize my camera. I ordered online through JVC the cord that connects the video camera to the computer, I even had the port installed into my tower so I would be able to upload videos (not usb, the other thing). They told me I should be able to upload videos now, but when I use my windows movie maker to upload it says "device not found". I'm getting very discouraged. I'm not too computer illiterate, although I don't know what some of the cords, and plugs and what not are called. My question is this...Am i doing something wrong, am I leaving something out, or do I need to download some kind of software in order for my computer to recognize my video camera? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I have the same problem as lamb005 except my camera is an SDR-H20GN. I have used the camera CDRom supplied & can upload to that software but cannot upload from their to YouTube which I am trying to do. I have tried through Windows Movie Maker but that is useless as that program won't recognize my camera. I even uninstalled the CDRom & the program Windows Media Player recognized it but then I assumed it was only for the sound. I contacted Panasonic which was a silly move because they won't support any other software even though I asked if maybe they had support like a certain driver support to help. I need to upload to YouTube & I need your help please. Thank You
