Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television
I need to explain the problem. The screen went to an hourglass-type view while my wife was watching the tv. It remained this way for a couple of days then my wife smelled something hot/burnt and the tv went out. I ordered new IC units and replaced them, once again the smell returned. I then purchased some panasonic resistors and changed one of the 2.2 ohm resistors and plugged the tv in. The tv came on for a few seconds, not connected to an antenna, and I noticed the very 2.2 ohm resistor turn red and the smell returned. I have purchased another set of IC units, this time they are the 110's instead of the 180's that I upgraded to. My question is if I replace all of the resistors around the IC units (i.e. 2.2, 82, and 120 ohm resistors) what is the probability that this will rectify the problem. I have no manual as one response inquired about.
I have heard from a few people that the higher value IC (150, 180, etc) do handle more current, but also that they *draw* more current, as well. Taking a guess, it may be simply that the 180s you installed were pulling too much juice from the resistors, which is why they popped. These ICs were used in many TVs, so it may be that the Panasonic doesn't have as much tolerance for the 180s' power requirements as, say a Hitachi.
Luckily, resistors are pretty cheap, so it's probably worth the few bucks to replace the resistors when you drop in the 110s you have in hand.
