I experience to repair that problem.The problem i can see is the power supply.The power supply have abnormal output voltage supply.I replace leak capacitor in the power supply,then it will oky.So i suggest to check the power supply and check if ther is a leak capacitor.A leak capacitor can identify through visual checking if you don't have capacitor tester.If you can see that the top of the capacitor is rounded shape and have some moise at the top compare to flated top shape of good capacitor.Try my sugestion andt procedure,hope will it help you.Thanks..

Turn on TV and picture and sound are great for about 60 seconds. Then the picture disappears but sound remains.

I would start with checking the power supply 12vdc output, make sure it is stable with no ripple. If the power supply checks out fine, I would then suspect the main board.

As I turn on my 36" Sony Trinitron TV, the picture and sound first come on for the first 5 mins. then the picture slowly shrinks on the top of the screen and then totally disappears leaving the screen...

Yes it can. Sounds like you have cold solder joints on the Vertical Output IC.

Picture stays on for 3 mins, then slowly disappears

sounds like the filament of the picture tube is losing voltage. normally this would be caused by a bad/broken/cracked solder connection. If this is the problem, it may not be too dificult to fix if you have the soldering skills and know what to look for.

Picture and sound disappeared

your red crt bulb is starting to go bad. somtimes you can tap lightly on the neck of the red and the prob. usually short term will go away. if not tube replacement is necessary. this is sometime a pricey repair. but worth it! john
