Is it a clicking only while driving? Maybe more so when turning? If so then it could be a CV joint. The boots tend to tear on the outter joints and the grease slings out (sometimes seen on the fender). Then you hear the ball bearings rattle around in there. Its very ******* them and should be fixed ASAP. If it breaks because of loss of grease it could leave you stranded.

If this is the problem then the CV most times can be repacked and the boot replaced. But repacking with grease does not fix wear and tear. It is not much more work to replace the whole shaft and CV shafts with inner and out joints ready to go are fairly cheap now days.

My 1999 funcargo is making noise from front left side ,it is worse when breaking and the steering shakes what could be the reason

A bit more information please. Could you please describe this noise in more detail? Is it a metal on metal grinding noise or more of a humming, rumbling noise? is it a single 'Thump' as you brake or a steady noise that changes with speed? Does the vehicle pull to one side as you brake? Does it happen when you turn tight corners?
The steering shaking means there is a vibration somewhere between the road wheels and the steering wheel. A common cause for the noises and vibration is a warped brake disc. Even the smallest warp can cause a lot of trouble.
Try this. Pull the Park brake ON, put wedges under the back wheels and the gearbox in Neutral. SAFELY jack up the front left side. You only need to get it high enough so the wheel is a couple of centimetres off the ground. Using your hand carefully spin the wheel 4 or 5 full turns. You are feeling to see if it gets harder to spin at certain places as it turns. You are also listening to the noise the wheel makes as it turns. Listen for a quiet gritty sound. A good condition brake disc will give a steady, quiet, gritty noise all the way around as it spins. A warped disc will be an 'On then Off' sound. Use the comment button below with more information and I'll see if I can help you more.

My 2009 kia Rio makes clunking noise from

Jack it up and try moving the wheel in and out at the top and bottom, and again left to right. If there's movement, you should be able to isolate it to a ball joint, A-arm bushing, or a wheel bearing (though the entire front suspension should have been checked while changing out the rack).

Steering sticking and noise from front end

it could be a pump fault. have some one at the front of the car watching the pump. some one sit in the drivers seat and parked up start engine and wiggle the steering wheel left and right see how the pump is acting. engine revs should drop and rise when doing this if no drop etc then the pump fins inside are warn. If this is all ok jack the front off the ground and put on stands, turn the steering to full on each side at a time and check the steering rack joints and balls and the condition of the rubbers. look for leaks in the line wile you under there.

Play in stering linkage

The most common of all problems in a steering system is excessive steering wheel play. Steering wheel play is normally caused by worn ball sockets, worn idler arm, or too much clearance in the steering gearbox. Typically, you shou Id not be able to turn the steering wheel more than 1 1/ 2 inches without causing the front wheels to move. If the steering wheel rotates excessively, a serious steering problem exists.

An effective way to check for play in the steering linkage or rack-and-pinion mechanism is by the dry-park test. With the full weight of the vehicle on the front wheels, have someone move the steering wheel from side to side while you examine the steering system for looseness. Start your inspection at the steering column shaft and work your way to the tie-rod ends. Ensure that the movement of one component causes an equal amount of movement of the adjoining component.

Watch for ball studs that wiggle in their sockets. With a rack-and-pinion steering system, squeeze the rubber boots and feel the inner tie rod to detect wear. If the tie rod moves sideways in relation to the rack, the socket is worn and should be replaced.

Another way of inspecting the steering system involves moving the steering components and front wheel BY HAND. With the steering wheel locked, raise the vehicle and place it on jack stands. Then force the front wheels right and left while checking for component looseness.

Changed my front passenger side brake caliper on my 2000 dodge 3500. i have bled the brakes, but now i dont have power steering. how do i get it back?

These systems are not related to one another in any way. the best thing to do is start off on a full diagnostic of the power steering system. Start with the fluid level, belt tension then check to see if the pump is bad. the rack would be my next target if all of those are checking out.

To test the power steering pump:
Open the power steering reservoir.
Have some one turn the wheel from left to right slowly there should be motion in the power steering reservoir.

testing the steering rack:
while turning the steering wheel from left to right listen for mechanical noises from the rack.

good luck,
Zim

Loud roaring from front right side goes away during a left curve then comes back when you straghten up

This is caused by a bad wheel bearing. to locate the right wheel jack the front wheels up and check for the wheel being loose, or with car jacked up in the air with front wheel off the ground put it in drive and see if you can listen for the noise, you may be right with the right front but just double check, good luck, hope this is helpful.

Steering hard to turn to the left like power steering is out but turns ok to the right. Checked power steering fluid. It is OK

bad steering problems,,your steering rack most likely, but, have you recently been stuck in ditch? when wheels are straight, look at front of car when parked. do wheels look funny? one going one way, and the other going the other? may be alignment. is it leaking any fluid on either side of the front of the car? drivers side? passenger side? if it's not out of alignment,,,wheels out of alignment,,the steering rack is the problem. it may be faulty. if not leaking fluid,it may still be bad. first i would make a visual test look under the vehicle while someone turned the steering wheel to right and left while car is in park, emergency brake on!! look at the steering arms while they turn the steering wheel from right to left. no fluid leaks? any resistance in turning the wheel? any leaks,if so,go to leak and repair with steering line replacement.no leaks? suspect a bad steering rack. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com i love to volunteer
