Most canons have a chip on the ink cartridge that tells the printer the ink is empty so unless you reset that chip (which you cannont do), that newly filled cartridge will always read empty. This is how some printer manufacturer's thwart people saving money by refilling their cartridges.

thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

Hi! I has refill my ink cartridges for canon mp490 printerbut I don't know how to reset it to make it print.i know you may have more idea then me.thanks for your help.thanks

Welcome to the world of Canon. Simply put, the PG-210 CL-211 cartridges have what I like to call "digital fuses" built in. One fuse for "new" and one for "empty". When you install a new Canon cartridge both "digital fuses" are intact. The "new" fuse tells the printer that it is a new genuine Canon cartridge and resets the page counter internal to the printer. With the page counter reset, the printer "blows" the "digital fuse" and that cartridge enters the used state. When the page counter on the printer believes the cartridge to be completely empty it will "blow" the second "digital fuse" and the printer will from then on refuse to recognize it as a valid cartridge. Some claim to have ways around this, but Canon really has won this battle. My Cartridge World store does not refill these cartridges and does not recommend refilling them. Buying original Canon cartridges is what we recommend.

I have refilled my main black ink cartridge on my canon pixma ip 3600, my printer won't acknowledge the refilled cartridge, is there anything I can do about this?

This is because the ink cartridges has a memory chip.It monitor ink levels.Press and hold the resume button for 5 seconds. This operation releases the function for detecting the remaining ink level of the above ink.The printer shows empty cartridges but it will printing.

I cannot get printer to recognize new or refilled cartridges. How do I reset Cannon MX310 to see new cartridges?

You can't reset the ink level on all Canon Pixma printers. You need to turn off the function on printer to show the ink level. On most printers this happen with push resume button and hold it for 5 seconds.
The printer shows empty cartridges but it will printing.
If you put a new cartridges the printer will recognize it automatically.

Refilled cartridge, mx310 does not recognise they are refilled and I get 1686 error can you help please

You need to buy the little circuit board that is on the cartridge. The chip tells the machine that the ink is empty. If you're going to refill, you need the chips as well or a chip resetter.

Some "remanufactured" ink-cartridges are just "refilled" cartridges,
and the company that refills them cannot "reset" the electronics inside the ink-cartridge to report that the ink now is "full".

So, just use the cartridge until you notice that the ink has gone empty.

I have refilled my cartradges and it does not print but comes a message that say check ink

refilled cartridges are not always 100% certain. a lot of the newer printers also have a electronic switch where even if the cartridges are filled, if the switch is not reset, it will prompt the printer to say it is empty.

Canon mx310

Canon cartridges have an intelligent chipset to prevent them from being refilled. To have them working properly you need to reset the chipset.
Try the software on this link.
If the above did not work you will need to use a cartridge chip resetter if you want to refill your cartridge.
