Question about Dell E207WFP LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor Problems We have a Dell PC that supports 2 monitors. Since July of last year, we've been successfully running one 20" LCD via a DVI cable and one CRT monitor using its integrated cable. Out of the blue, the LCD went dark. The green light turned to amber and nothing. I ended up removing the DVI cable from the LCD and using a regular monitor cable instead and it worked fine. The only trouble now is that I can only use one monitor instead of two. Do you think it's a bad DVI cable (do they just go from good to bad?) or perhaps a video card issue? Thanks TQ

Borrow a DVI cable from some friend and test it, just in case.

If you want to use multiple monitors, ensure you are using the right settings. Go to control panel>> Display,
open the Display properties box, click the last tab at the top right hand corner, and chose advanced see here for XP, Vista is similar:

Hi Jessica,
Dell E228WFPC/E228WFP does support displays with 1920x1080 set resolution via DVI connection while it is restricted to validated Dell brand displays:
  • The restriction applies to resolution higher than 1680x1050 via DVI connection.
  • No restriction with VGA connection, which supports up to 1920x1200.

If you use a DVI connection set your computer's resolution to 1680x1050.

1: Resolving Laptop LCD Lines,
Fuzzy, Color, or Blurry Issues

Verify that the BIOS and Video drivers are the latest available from Support.Dell.Com Website, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article, "How to Use the Drivers and Downloads Website"

Test the LCD in the System Setup (BIOS).
To enter the computer BIOS Setup Screen perform the following steps:
At the first text on the screen or when the Dell logo appears, tap <F2> until the message Entering Setup appears.
Note:
Some older Dell computers use an alternate key sequence instead of to enter System Setup. These key sequences include:
<Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Enter>
<Delete>
<Fn>+<F1> (laptop computers only)
<Fn>+<Esc> (laptop computers only)
If you observe the same issue on the setup screen, it is not an issue with the Operating System, it is a hardware issue, Contact Technical Support/font>.

Run the Laptop Built-In Self-Test (BIST).
To run the Built-In Self-Test perform the following:
Turn the computer off.
Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the BIST.
The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Click the following link to see an English-only video of this test How to Run LCD BIST Video .

If the LCD BIST passes, proceed to Step 4, otherwise Contact Technical Support.

For information on Beep Codes/Error Codes refer to Dell Knowledge Base article, Pre-Boot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics and Error Codes For Dell Computers

Connect to an external monitor (if available), for the different types of external monitor ports that may be available on your computer refer to (Figure 1).

Display Port
Display Port is a new digital standard for connecting monitors to computers and has the capability to provide a scalable digital display interface with optional audio and high-definition content protection (HDCP) capability. Display Ports usually resemble USB Ports with one side angled.
A Display Port cable should be used if Display Port connectors are available on both the computer and the monitor.

DVI
Digital Video Interface (DVI) is the digital standard for connecting monitors to computers. DVI connections are usually color-coded with white plastic and labels.
DVI cables provide a higher quality signal than VGA cables. A DVI cable should be used if DVI connectors are available on both the computer and the monitor.

VGA
Video Graphics Array (VGA) is the analog standard for connecting monitors to computers. VGA connections are commonly color-coded with blue plastic and labels.
A VGA cable should be used if DVI connectors are not available on either the monitor or the computer.

Once it's connected, press and hold down the FN and press F8, this should display the screen on the external monitor.

When the external monitor does not work or you did not have one to test with, Contact Technical Support.

When the external monitor does work it may be an issue with the Operating System. Verify that all the drivers are the latest available from Support.Dell.Com Website, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article, "How to Use the Drivers and Downloads Website". When that does not fix the issue the Operating System may need to be reinstalled, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article, "How To Restore or Reinstall Microsoft Windows on a Dell Computer".

Check for visible damage to the LCD. To identify any damage not visible to the ***** eye, ensure you run LCD BIST on the system (refer to Step 3).

If the LCD has damages which is not covered by any applicable statutory warranty, limited hardware warranty and/or Dell-branded service, including Complete Care / Accidental Damage service, there may be a cost incurred by you for the replacement of parts.

First thing I would try will beusing this monitor with another PC using the same the same setup to see if it works OK. We need to narrow down the cause of the problem first since you have three parts that can be bad; Monitor, DVI cable, PC Video card/PC. It is just a process of elimination to locate the problem.

DVI output problems with Acer Veriton M464

If you are comfortable with opening the case, you can try this: Unplug the power supply, make sure are constantly grounded (touching metal)remove add-in video card. Locate the "Clear CMOS" jumper (usually 3 pins in a row with two shorted via a plastic jumper). Remove the jumper and short the other 2 pins (if originally pins 1-2 with 3 open, short 2-3 with 1 open) for a few seconds. Then replace on original pins. Plug monitor into motherboard video port and power on. If it works, you can leave as is or try to re-install your video card following the same precautions when opening the case and probably changing BIOS settings to utilize the add-on card.

Computer won't recognize monitor driver

Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.

Good luck to you

Inoperative monitor

Here are a couple things to try.

1. try the input select button on the monitor (The minnus button) without pressing the OSD menu button 1st, see if it changes to analog.

http://support.us.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/1703fps/en/controls.htm

When the DVI self-test screen is up, it is indicating monitor is in DVI mode.

2. If that doesn't work, try a DVI to analog converter on the DVI port on the monitor and connect the analog cable to the converter. See if you get any video that way.

3. If you can access the On-Screen Display (OSD Menu) perform a factory reset.

Dell 410XPs + Dell 3007WFP monitor issues

Vinod,
That's quite strange as during system startup you should see the Dell POST logo as at that point the card is only running at VGA, and the monitor will support display at this resolution. If you connect with a normal single DVI cable the monitor should display at 1280x800 also.
Have you tried this? Also have you had this monitor working on another computer at all? What happens if you power up the 3007 with no video cable connected? It should cycle through the pixel test screens. If you are not getting that, and you are not getting the pre POST logo during powerup i suspect that it is a screen failure.
