I've been trying to hook my laptop up to my TV with an adapter system (its an old tv) and for some reason I cant get a picture. Even when I tried a straight cable to flatscreen it didnt work at all. Is there some sort of software I need for this to work? Its been two different cables on two different tvs, but Im beginning to think its my laptop...please help!

You need to toggle the display on your laptop. be sure that when you connect the tv or external monitor the laptop should be turned off. to toggle the display kindly press Fn followed by F8. for old tv's you need to have an S-video cable. for LCD monitors, either VGA or DVI cable will help.

i hope this info helps you.

I have a toshiba laptop a205 I have the usb adapter to hdmi cable hooked up to the tv I cant get picture or sound

First, you need to check the input setting on the TV (change it to HDMI and which HDMI because some TV have more than one HDMI input).
Second, please check the Output on the laptop (cycle it; laptop only, external monitor only, both of the screens).

How to connect dish tv to my laptop? It has inbuilt tv tuner.

Your Lenovo laptop can be hooked up your TV if you have a model that is capable of TV output. Newer models with HDMI ports can easily connect to newer TVs that have HDMI input jacks. For older laptops or TVs, you will need other adapters or cables. The most common of these is an S-video jack, which has a small round connector with several pins arranged in a circle. For S-video connections, you will need to hook up the audio from your laptop to your TV separately.

Things You'll Need

HDMI cable

USB-to-HDMI adapter

OR

S-video cable

Audio cables

HDMI Connection

Turn on your Lenovo laptop and HDMI-enabled TV.

Connect one end of your HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your laptop. Lenovo's IdeaPad series has these ports. If you have a ThinkPad or other Lenovo model, connect a USB-to-HDMI adapter to your HDMI cable, then plug the USB end of the adapter into any USB port.

Press the "FN" and "F7" keys on your keyboard. This will switch the laptop's display to the TV. You can then use your TV screen as a monitor or use the laptop's DVD drive to watch movies on your TV.

S-Video Connection

Turn off your laptop and TV. Connect your S-video cable to the laptop on one end and the TV on the other.

Plug audio cables into your audio out jacks on the laptop. If you do not have stereo audio output, you can use the headphone/speaker jack. Add a splitter adapter to split the sound into stereo instead of mono (single speaker). Plug the other ends of the audio cables into your TV.

Turn on the laptop and let it boot up. Then turn on the TV. Right-click on your desktop screen, then select "Properties."

Click the "Settings" tab, the "Advanced" button, then "ATI displays" or "Display device" or the similarly worded option, depending on your system. It is not the "On screen displays" option in any version.

Click on the option that suits your system, such as "TV" or "LCD." Click "Apply," then "Yes" to confirm, if necessary. Click "OK" to exit. Your display should be visible on the TV screen. If not, try pressing "FN" and "F7" to toggle the display to the external screen.

I hear a loud static noise when I connect my laptop to my tv. I have a HP Dv6000 laptop and when I hook it up to my Olevia lcd flat panel tv using a VGA for the video and mini jack with a rca adapter. I...

You have whats called an earth imbalance, you may indeed find that you need to ensure BOTH ends are earthed, usually via the cable, but some/most adapters are above earth and cause this problem, all i can suggest is to try a new adapter, and make sure you have good earths between the two units, via the Audio cables. The reason it works OK without the PSU, is there there is then NO earth connected from the mains..
I have found sometimes that this symptom is indicative of a bad earthing of the House/mains wiring too. This is common if ion a dry climate, you may need to earth out your system better, or just use batteries when doing this?

How can I connect my notebook to my TV

In order to display PC video on a TV the PC must have a TV-OUT function and interface, or you need a VGA to TV converter box.
If your PC has TV-OUT functionality, your user manual will tell you this. If you have, Google "Display PC on TV" and you should find some good articles on how to connect the PC to the TV, and how to change the settings on the PC. NB. even if your PC supports TV-OUT, you may still need to buy a converter cable (but not a box).
If no TV-OUT functionality, E-Bay lists some converter boxes from about £15. NB. the much cheaper cables only work on PCs with TV-OUT functionality.

I try and hook my toshiba pc to a tv or projector

Lots of people are doing this and part depends on what your home theatre has to offer in the way of connections.

For sound most use the LINE OUT on a computer or laptop and connect that to a suitable input on the receiver using a 3.5mm to stereo phono lead.

If you are lucky enough to have an OPTICAL sound out on your computer and one on the home system that would be a better option.

For the video side again it depends on what your computer has to offer

If it has DVI and your TV or home system has DMI then that is the very best option. Remember to lower the resolution on the computer first and to check and of your graphics card options for dual display. A DVI to HDMI lead is needed for that

NVIDIA graphics cards seem to work best in this area.

If you have a VGA connector on your TV that is another great option and you would only need a VGA lead.

Some cards and laptops have S-VIDEO out. Lots of TV's and home systems have these and the display is quite reasonable. If using S-video connections use a GOOD quality cable.

Some people can only obtain a black and white picture so check your graphics card did not come with any special adaptor.

Another method is composite video Even that is not always 100%

Some laptops need a special S-video adaptor which is just a short little cable to properly enable the S-video and convert S-video to composite. That is probably the worst way to do it.

Using a VGA to component lead is also an option but results vary wildly from no picture to quite good. A lot depends on the quality of the lead once again.

I use the optical sound and DMI lead to power a 50" Sony with great sound and picture

Problems with Lenovo 3000N200 0769-EAG tv-out

My friend, the easiest and by far the best way I have seen is to set the advance timings on your laptop just right and use a vga to scart cable.

Restart your Laptop to recognize again your TV on the system.

Need to hook up laptop to TV

If you have an HDMI port you might also have an RGB port, use your tv video source button and go through your options. If RGB option is listed you have it. It's a standard moniter port, you can use a standard monitor cable to hook things up. This will not however carry sound so you'll need a basic 3.5mm size cable that ends in an RCA plug (can be picked up radio shack.

I use this method to watch hulu.com movies on my 50" plasma tv.

Another option if you have an "S" video on both the laptop and the tv, use that with just an "S" video cable.

Other wise look for a RGB cable that converts to standard RCA stereo plugs again Radio Shack should be able to help you. You can also buy cables on eBay a lot cheaper then a retail store.

IBM ThinkPad 380Z AV Hook up To Tv

From what I have been reading, the video card in the computer itself MUST support TV out. You can't just use a TV like a computer monitor...it won't work. Check the ads on eBay for those adapter cables and they will say: Check to make sure your video card supports TV out. Go back to eBay and search in the same general area for a computer video to TV adapter or converter box. DO NOT get it confused with the converter box for HDTV. They are about $25-$35 and you will still need the cable adapter you already have, plus another set of just the AV cables. Good luck. Please rate this if it was helpful.

you can get s-video to scart connections;and if youve no scart you can connect s-video to phono....thats ur red, yellow n white audio / video plugs.yellow=video...white/red=left/right audio.
if you download a service manual it shows the pinout for s-video connections making it able to connect phono's.you only need the yellow and either red or white cos pc only outputs mono to tv.
there are also wireless systems you can get though never tried them.
you could also connect to another monitor, just plug the monitor into the back of pc(ext)only go into on place one way so no prob there.if no picture on ext monitor u need to switch screens
(alt+f 4)usually.press together once switches to ext mon, press together again enables both screens, and again returns to pc.
