Question about Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD Monitor

Open Question

My Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD Doesn't recognize DVD Player

I bought this unit from Best Buy as a floor model (marked down), installed it with a friend...OK he installed it I just provided the beer and pizza.

It seemed to work fine for a couple months, but now there is a DVD stuck that my son and one of his friends put in when they used the car. The system won't play the DVD or eject it. When I tried to figure out how to get it out the DVD function keeps showing Demo mode, but nothing I have tried can turn off Demo mode. I've tried to remove power, pressed reset and pushed just about every button on the thing...no luck.

When I pulled it out and brought it back to BB they asked for my receipt, which of course has disappeared. I don't understand how a technology behemoth can't check the SN against their sales records. It was manufactured in February 08, so it is obviously still under warranty but I just got resistance.

Anyway, does anyone have any idea how to get the unit to read the DVD player?

SOURCE: bypass without switch

Get a relay (4 or 5 pin) from Autozone, O-Reilly, PEP Boys, etc....
Connect wires as follows on relay:
Pin #86 - Amp remote from your radio (blue wire)
Pin #30 and #85 - to a chassis ground (metal dash bracket)
Pin #87 - to Parking brake input wire on your radio (light green)
Pin # 87a - IGNORE. It isn't used in this case.

What this will do is.....
Radio will power on when you turn your key. The amp wire is delayed slightly and will trigger the relay in a second or two. This tricks the radio into thinking your e-brake has been engaged and violla....Mine has worked everyday since I connected it.

SOURCE: how do i play video from usb on a Pioneer

You can NOT view video using USB on this unit. Video has to come from the AV inputs (RCA connections) or from an IPOD connection. Sorry.

No sound from ipod, usb or aux?

I removed my Pioneeer AVH-P4000DVD from my Tacoma pickup to upgrade to an AVH-X2500BT and installed the AVH-P4000DVD in my mustang cobra and found myself suffering from a strange issue (that seems to have happened to a lot of you too). All of a sudden I had lost my audio on my USB and AUX inputs. I tore the net apart for a solution, pouted, drank, and started doing more and more research, and check instruction manuals. I eventually found the solution based of one lone comment someone had mentioned regarding ground and comparing the wiring diagrams for the two decks. I pulled the pioneer harness out of truck and compared it to the pioneer harness in my car and found an inconsistency. This may solve the issue that plagues you as well. Check the harness you are using. I was not able to find a pinout, but the 4 wires on one end of the harness for the AVH-P4000DVD should be +12V battery, +12V ignition, ground, and ground, (yellow, red, black, and black). If you have received the harness for a newer model of pioneer AVH it will still fit fine but one wire is out of place. The second ground wire you need has been replaced by a purple reverse gear sensor for the backup camera. Ground out the purple wire and it should solve your issue... It did for me. Good luck.

I might buy a pioneer avh p6400cd

hi there
this pioneer unit is just a CD player with a TV screen/monitor there is no DVD player in it. in order to watch a DVD you need to get the DVD player (sold separately) also its 6yrs old...it was really good in 2003 but since then there have been units that have a DVD,CD,navigation slot built in (this unit has a CD player built in only this means you cant put a DVD in the slot) if its selling for under $150 buy it if there asking over this i would wait and buy a newer system with everything just remember the DVD player for this unit is another cost so you may be paying just as much for this as you would for a newer unit........ so for me to answer your question its an OK unit and there haven't been to many problems with it except the complaints to pioneer about having to buy the DVD player separately........info for you in 2003 this avh-p6400cd sold for $499 but not to many people knew that they had to buy the units DVD player which was sold separately for $359
hope this has helped your deside

ground the wire to a hot (ie power comes to the wire) switch in your dash, like a rear window defroster or seat heater. turn the switch on then off and it will trick the system into thinking you activated the parking brake.

My screen

It is telling you that, depending on the rear-view camera that is attached, the image MAY appear reversed. If the unit is going into this screen on it's own, go to the main menu screen where you would choose DVD, RADIO, AUX, etc... and press Rear View. It should beep (but not change). That is it.
