The nosie you're heraing is caused by one or more of the fan blade irons being loose, where they attach to the fan motor. Turn the fan OFF and once it's stopped spinning, check and tighten, as necessary, each loose, fan blade iron, screw. Use a Phillips head screw driver for this.

Hope this helps you solve the mystery of the whooshing noise. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Loud noise coming from top of Rheem Power Vent gas water heater started this afternoon-- possibly a fan issue?

The "whisper quiet" blower could have a bad bearing, bad bushing, or the blade might be rubbing against part of the cowling. If rubbing against metal, you might be able to realign where it no longer rubs. Careful, it may be very hot!

Freezer fan makes sounds like rubbing back wall

Two things come to mind - either the fan has accumulated enough dust and debris to make noise or, more likely the fan's bushings are worn out and/or the original lubricant has dried out. The fans usually have sealed bushings and once you take the freezer apart far enough to get to the fan to service it, it is much easier and cost effective to replace the fan. If you take the fan itself apart and re-lube the worn bushings your "fix" very likely won't last very long.

Frigidaire dryer blower fan keeps getting stuck.

Since you didn't leave a model number, I will have to give you a generic answer, instead of one with a part number of the most likely replacement part. Normlly the problem you discribe is a result of the blower motor bearing wearing out and letting the fan blades rub against the housing. And since the bearing is internal to the motor, you have to replace the entire motor.

My heater/ac fan makes a clicking noise when running, why?

The bushings in the electric motor has worn out and the blower unit will need to be replaced. When the bushing in the shaft is worn out, the fan will rub against the blower cage which will make the noise you have described.

You can pick up the blower fan at Auto Zone and they will have the step by step instructions for you to get the job done with common tools.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Cooling fan makes little noise now and then on my xj6.

mcdevito75, This could be some wear in the bearings of the cooling fan, keep an eye out for the noise getting worse, if so replace the fan with a new one. These cooling fans are sealed units so when the niose gets to be too much you"ll have to replace with brand new.

My defroster makes a rattling noise on high speed

could be leaves in the fan getting through the wiper vents or surrounding areas over time and the heater fan needs to be removed and cleaned out....or the heater fan bushes are worn through age and the fan or bushes need replacing or maybe even the heater fan is loose in its mounting and its rubbing somewhere

Fan makes a whining noise as though it is struggling to turn

Check the bushings for alignment and lubrication. Dried accumulated dirt makes the rotor stuck and hard to turn. If this is the case, remove the oscillation gear assembly at the back of the motor. Lubricate the front and rear bushings while manually turning the fan to loosen it. Do it until the fan smoothly spins. You can use engine oil as lubricant or even cooking oil but don't let it flood the motor assembly.
If the fan smoothly spins when manually turned but still makes a whining noise when plugged and switched on, align the bushings.until desired result is obtained.
Note: These procedures are based on my actual experience and makes a perfect result. Extra effort is the only investment.
