There is another way to do a system restore using the computer by itself. Try going to the start menu-> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. This should work more efficiently

please try pressing the ALT+f10 ON STARTUP
this may take you into the factory restore

if it asks for a password and you have not set one then the default is normally 000000 6 zero,s

then follow on screen instructions

if you have the option to save any files or pictures before you do this please do so if you need any saved as you will loose them if you do a complete factory restore

many thanks

Dell inspiron mini wont accept password...or reset password. Everything I have read says drive for disk. Also only allows to go to set up and f12...tried to reset default...

Turning on your Dell and turning off again at the Dell logo three to four times will put the computer in automatic repair. It should also give you other options such as restore, etc.

HI, Need help on my Vista disk space

Well you need to start an command prompt with administrator privileges and from there do "vssadmin list shadowstorage" which will tell you how much disk space is in use by System Restore and what the maximum was.

Fixing the problem is also done using vssadmin with the "Resize ShadowStorage" option. I did and now I can keep working just fine again .

Can i use a compaq system restore disk on an emachine? I don't have the boot up disks that i was supposed to create when i got this emachine, but i do have some old compaq ones, both use windows xp os...

You cannot use the restore disks from those other systems to do a restore. Even though you may be able to extract the XP install files, you won't be able to authenticate it because the disk is OEM and reads data off of the system it is supposed to install on.

If you have an emachine, contact them for the restore disk, or search the internet for a restore disk for your model. Some people sell them, even on ebay.

A Disk read error occured PressCtrl+Alt+Del to restart.

If you are getting a disk read error, you will need to use a program like spinrite to fix it or you will need to replace the hard drive.
This is one error you don't want to see. It means your hard drive is failing.
You will not be able to do a system restore as long as you get this error.

Dell b130 internal system restoration failed

Incase you don't have any thing important on the computer try a factory restore. This will wipe out everthing and make the cmputer like new. To start it power off the laptop. Power it on and hold down ctrl and tap f11 severl times at the Dell logo screen. Try this q couple of times as it may not work the first time. If this does nothing you'll need the os cd (xp cd) tO repair or reinstall windows.

Windows vista

It's you restore disk by the sound of it.
You can usually just put the disk that you made in to the drive and restart the computer.
If you can't do it that way then there may be a program on the computer that runs and reads the disk you made to restore everything from within Windows.
