Usb drive not recognized

Have you used this particular USB drive before? We need to isolate which device is the culprit. I would verify that that drive works in another device before attempting to troubleshoot the player itself. Let me know once you've done that and then we can proceed further.

We own a DVW-7100 DVD / VCR Combo. I realize it's pretty old, byut it has been dependable. Lately it won't play some of the DVDs. Is there a download to fix the encoding / decoding problem?

If you've had for awhile and have not cleaned, that could be one possible problem. Suggest purchasing and using a CD/DVD cleaning kit. These are inexpensive.
Another possibility is to check the disc(s) that you are trying to use. Older players will not recognize many of the newer recordable disc formats like DVD +R or DVD -R and DVDRW. This especially includes dual-layer and high definition formats like HD DVD and Blu-Ray.
Please write back, if these do not help.

The dvd wont initialize blanc discs so that i can record with it.i have used different disc as well

Do you mean it won't format/initialize the disc? Alternative possible problem, when you put in a disc, does it not recognize that a blank disc is in the unit? Only DVD-RAM discs need formatting. DVD-RW discs need to be initialized. DVD-R disc do not need either formatting or initializing. (This unit does not write to DVD+R or DVD+RW discs.)

In the case of DVD-RW discs that can't be initialized. Check if this has already been done (or if you need to unfinalize the disc).

If the new disc is not being recognized as a blank disc, the recorder may not be recognizing the disc (dirt, scratches or manufacturing issue) or the recorder is not focusing on the disc properly. In the first case, clean the disc or try a different type of disc (Samsung claims that their discs will be most compatible). In the second case, the unit may need service.

I hope this helps.
