Problem for Actiontec (GT704WG) Router

Random disconnects

i have my router all set up and working but somtimes i lose my internet connection and have to turn the router off an back on to get my internet connection back this gets really annoying how can i fix this?

Same Problem

Apr 17, 2009

-   I've had this problem for a long time. At random intervals (once or twice a week) the router will lose connection to the "Internet" (WAN) and any computer connected to the computer, wireless or wired, will lose connection to computers on the WAN. Connections between computers on the WAN works fine (not very surprising).

When rebooting the router, the connection is re-established.

I can connect to the router itself over HTTP and reboot from the "Device" page.

DNS is disabled (the router appears to have problems with cached lookups, so I set up a DNS server separately).

-   It was only happening a few times a week 4 me, but has not occurred 3 times today.  I will try my OLD modem & see if it is more reliable - previously it stayed connected for months not days.  A number of changes have been made to my home network including adding a phone extension to the modem - so lots of things to eliminate! ;-)-   stingray_f5b

-   Samething happens to me, and now with a Wii system, sometime it won't allow that to connect when I have the laptop going wireless.-   ksvondrak

-   Same problem here. I upgraded to the latest firmware (though that already dates from 2005) because a Vista 64 server was unable to connect to it. That fixed the problem, but now I loose internet connection every hour or so. Damn thing is 7 years old...it's gonna fly pretty soon !!!-   Nihil1

-   If my computer is on through out the day sometimes my router / modem doesn't connect me to the internet. I have to turn the computer and modem off, wait 10 to 15 seconds and then turn everything back on to get back onto the internet. Is there a solution to this problem, forever minor it is. hi

change the position of the router:
- put in a higher position then it is
- remove from its surroundings any kind of induction
(speakers, transformer ...)

good luck

This problem might occurs when using an older version of ConfigPPP, version 2.0.1

To fix the problem try:

  1. Open the ConfigPPP control panel
  2. Locate where it says "Echo Interval:" with a number after it. This is about a third of the way down the ConfigPPP window.
  3. The number is actually a pop-up menu. Click on it, and choose "Off" from the resulting menu.
Hope this helps.

because of the location of my outlet, its on a stand by itself, not near any other electronic devices. i was desperate enough to set up a fan 2 feet from it to cool it down. all for nothing.
i have a fujitsu speedport at work which has never had any problems for the past 8 years. i think im going to go with another for my home computer.

- its already at its limit of the power source cord. cannot place it any higher. you want me to plug in an extension cord & set it atop my roof?

Nov 15, 2007

- thanks alsep but your are speaking a foreign language to me...

"Now I'm experienting with WAN settings. Make sure you have WAN backup set to DSL Link, Fail tolerance 2, Recovery Interval 30 secs, Timeout 3 secs, Traffic Redirect disabled (if you have dynamic IP addess; this is in case of adsl connection)."

this is waaay beyond my "very limited" knowledge of computers. i would rather spend the $$ on a reliable product than continue to troubleshoot this piece of junk!

- windman. to satisfy your solution, i moved it. will let you know. the power cord is the limiting factor!!!! even as i reply to your comments, my router is heating up! they should design it with a heat sink or internal cooling fan like my external hds have!

- well FixYa...
this hasnt been helpful at all. i will check back later if my router hasnt burned out! piece of junk!
fyi, do Not purchase ActionTec products!
good money says they're made in China!

I am having the exact same problem. I took the device back to the store and they replaced it with a brand new one, but the new is doing the same thing. I will try the solution given and tell you if it works.

I have had the same problem. A technician from Zyxel company advised me to change the firmware to the newer one. My firmware is V3.40(MV.3) dated 07/29/2005. I received a new firmware file by email. It's 2,7 Mb binary file. I havent done it yet because I need to be sure there's no other way. It's the last resort I'll take.

Now I'm experienting with WAN settings. Make sure you have WAN backup set to DSL Link, Fail tolerance 2, Recovery Interval 30 secs, Timeout 3 secs, Traffic Redirect disabled (if you have dynamic IP addess; this is in case of adsl connection).

Above mentioned settings help a lot but sometimes it still loses connection.
I've heard Zyxel Prestige 2602 HW tends to disconnect from internet randomly.

My internet connection will drop when downloading large file through wireless connection. The wireless connection between PC and WCG200 is still alive. I have to reboot the modem to get the internet connection back.

while playing online games, my router heats up & i get disconnected. if i leave it for a few minutes then reboot it it works fine for about 20-30 minutes. when it heats up again, it disconnects. this is REALLY Frustrating!!!!

Comment by Calvin_H, posted on Nov 14, 2007

Same here. Found out that the following error is written in routers status log before disconnecting:

"LCP Echo Failure Count 6. f->state 4"

I'm using firmware version 1.9.5.3

Any solutions to this?

kind regards,
Wolfgang
