Advising someone to reinstall outlook express without knowing exaclty what the problem is, is NOT sound advise - it is an INAPPROPRIATE solution and that is why that rating was selected. After wasting well over an hour on a paid chat with a so called "expert" and getting nowhere, I spent under half that time researching on the internet and came up with a simple solution that corrected the problem, so yes I CAN READ :) It seems the problem I encoutered is quite a common problem and not one that needs drastic measures like reinstalation of the programme.

I quote an exert from your abusive comment above "someone who spends their time to help someone they don't even know for NO recognition." - CLEARLY YOU ARE AFTER RECOGNITION, AND THAT IS IN THE FORM OF A HIGH RATING, SO DONT ACUSE PEOPLE AND INCLUDE SUCH INCORRECT RUBISH IN YOUR SORE AND CHILD LIKE MANNER, unfortunatley you obviously dont quite understand that a rating system is there for people to provide an honest and personal view of their opinion, if there is 4 options and only one of them is appropriate then clearly that is the one that will be selected.

ALL YOU HAVE DONE NOW IS TO CREATE ANOTHER RATING FOR YOURSELF WITH ONLY ONE SELECTION ANYWHERE NEAR THE TRUTH....

I would suggest an Outlook Express Reinstall after you back up your address book and message list. If nothing is of importance just resinstall it because backing up can be problematic with OE being partially functional.

Reinstall OE6
You need your windows CD and you must be logged on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group in order to perform this procedure.

  1. Click Start , click Run , and then type the following command:
%systemroot%inf
ie - "c:windowsinf" - no quotes
  1. Click OK to open the INF folder.
  2. Locate the file MSOE50.inf .
Right-click the file, and then click Install . This will reinstall the files that Outlook Express needs to proceed normally.
It will ask you to put your windows XP cd in the drive

correction - Since you can't read or use ratings correctly here is my new solution.  Pay Geek Squad a grip of cash and then have a real reason to slap someone in the face.  Instead of doing it to someone who spends their time to help someone they don't even know for NO recognition.

I want to delete my web search toolbar

On the Menu bar under "VIEW" select the "Toolbars" drop down menu and deselect the toolbar.
This often brings up a dialog box asking if you want to disable the toolbar select "Yes".
You can also try to see if the toolbar is listed in the add/remove control panel and uninstall it from there.
If you are trying to remove the dreaded "MY WEB SEARCH" toolbar(its not clear from your post) do this:
First, uninstall the MyWebSearch option from Add/Remove Programs
1) Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel
2) Double click on Add/Remove Programs
3) Find "My Web Search" in the list of installed programs and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it. You may also want to uninstall any of the following items associated with FunWebProducts.
· My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
· My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
· My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
· My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
· Search Assistant - My Way
4) Reboot your Computer and run HijackThis or another adware/spyware scanner
5) With HijackThis, scan for and fix any of the entries shown above that may be remaining.
6) Next, open My Computer, Drive C, and double-click on the Program Files folder
7) Right-click and delete the folders for:
· FunWebProducts
· MyWebSearch
8) MyWebSearch should now be completely uninstalled from your computer.
9) There will be some minor registry entries left behind by the uninstall, however these can be cleaned up by running SpyBot Search and Destroy or Ad-Aware SE or left alone.

Troubleshooting FAQs

IMPORTANT NOTE TO AOL, MSN, COMPUSERVE AND SBC ISP USERS:
If you are using the built-in browser provided by your ISP, you will NOT see My Mail Signature or your toolbar. They do not work with the built-in browser. Instead, you MUST:

1) Launch Internet Explorer 5.01 or above from your desktop. (Don't have it? Download here.)
2) Find your browser toolbar - it will have either a "My Web Search" or "My Way Search" logo.
To use My Mail Signature in email: My Mail Signature works with Outlook, Outlook Express, AOL Mail 9.0, IncrediMail (using IE 5.5 or above), and with most web-based email platforms (using IE 5.01 or above), including the rich-text Editor version of MSN Hotmail. (To learn more, click here.)

How do I know if my version of My Mail Signature is compatible with Outlook or Outlook Express?

To check that My Mail Signature is compatible with your Outlook or Outlook Express email platform, you will need to do the following:

1) Open a new browser (Internet Explorer 5.01 and above only).

2) Locate your browser toolbar - it will have either a "My Web Search" or "My Way Search" logo - and click the down arrow to the immediate right of the My Web Search/My Way Search logo (far left side of the toolbar).

3) Select "My Web Search Version" or "My Way Search Version". A small window should appear with the version of your toolbar. Check that it says Version: 1, 1, 1, 0 or higher. (Click here to see a picture)

I use Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm, or similar firewall/proxy software and am having trouble downloading My Mail Signature. Why?

The most common problem when downloading or installing My Mail Signature occurs when running such software. If you are running one of these types of products, try temporarily disabling it, then go back to http://www.mymailsignature.com to try the download process again. You can reactivate your firewall/proxy software once the download and installation of the toolbar and My Mail Signature is complete.

Why can't I see My Mail Signature - or the toolbar - on my browser?

If you have downloaded My Mail Signature and are not seeing the My Signature button or the toolbar on your browser, you may need to enable the toolbar through your browser's menu. To do this:
1) Click on the "View" menu option.
2) Select "Toolbars".
3) You will see either "My Web Search" or "My Way Search" listed in the dropdown - make sure that there is a check mark next to it. If there is no check mark, click on the toolbar name in order to enable it.

If the toolbar DOES have a check mark but is not visible on your browser, clear the check mark by clicking on the name of the toolbar. Then repeat the steps above to re-enable it. The toolbar should now appear.

Outlook express

dear fando,

This is usually down to a corrupt or over-full email inbox. Outlook Express is not very good at holding large amounts of emails especially if they have large attachments. I had a user this morning with a 2.5 GB inbox.

Backup/rename Inbox (C:\Documents and Settings\(User)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GIU}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\inbox.dbx -> inboxbak.dbx).
Close Outlook Express.
Open Outlook Express.
Outlook Express will have created a whole new Inbox.
Your email should now work.

Best wishes.
