You can access the Intellisense with any universal remote that has a settings button.
TV > Settings > Video > Scroll down to find Intellisense.
Wouldn't this be the same as using the menu button on the front of the set to access setup? After I select Intellisense it brings up a message on the screen saying to "press the Intellisense button on the remote". Do you know of some other way to activate the function without the remote?

Something missing here. There is no channel 1 on a TV set. None of the universal remote instructions I have or have seen specify that as a first step. From your post, I believe you want to use some kind of universal remote to control an RCA flat panel TV, Can you tell me the brand of universal remote you are trying to use? The answer to the last line of your post is you don't need the original remote to "reprogram". That's what universal remotes do
If you can access the Menu options with your present universal remote, get into it, and surf thorugh picture adjustment and PIP adjustment screen, and set the PIP option to OFF. If you can't access the Menu option with your present remote control, there is no other way to do this without its original remote control.
If the model number on the set is 55PP9401/55 you have an interesting set----this model says Philips but was made by Hitachi---they made them for Philips for one year while Philips was gearing up to produce their own sets---very good set and is better than the Philips sets that came after it. It uses (if it is this model) two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC's----both need to be replaced and the set adjusted---no need for an original remote---with the set engaged in the convergence adjustment mode( there is a micro switch on the front of the main circuit board) A HITACHI REMOTE CAN THEN BE USED TO ADJUST THE CONVERGENCE. Hope this was helpful.
Try a RCA universal remote with an input button. Try the codes for Orion , Sansui and RCA. Access the menu by holding down both volume buttons on the front of the set. There is no access to the jacks on the front of the set without a remote. If all else fails get a RF Modulator. This will allow you to watch your dvd by using the antenna jack on the back of the set.
Please be informed that the codes vary with different make and model of the universal remote that you have. If none of the codes above work, please post back with make and model of your universal remote included.
