Troubleshooting GE Arctica Profile

Hello,
I could use some help figuring out what is going on with my GE Arctica Profile side-by-side refrigerator. The unit is about 7 years old and until a few days ago functioned perfectly. Now, I have two issues. 1) the freezer section (possibly the other side too) seems to not be getting cold enough; no matter what I set the control at my freezer items are defrosting. The side is cool, but not cold. 2) the ice maker is not making any new ice.

I am able to get water frorm the front dispenser no problem and I don't see any error lights blinking or anything on the control panel.

How can I trouble shoot this before needing to call a technician?

Thanks!
Jason

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

Wow, so you dropped some money into it, eh? I would take a look at the damper door asslb(DIFFUSER). located at the very top left of your refrigerator section in back. It has a motorized door that opens and close's and it may be stuck open. More than likely it is broken and needs to be replaced. GOODLUCK!!!!

FYI: All your cold air in your refrigerator comes from your freezer!

I came across this problem recently , and found the main control board was bad . Check this site first , to see if it can be covered under warranty .

It was covered under warranty , at the previous customers residence .

SOURCE: ge profile arctica side by side- ice maker and

The water dispenser and the icemaker both operate on different soleniods on the water valve so the chances of a bad valve are slim. I would assume you issue is in your water supply. The easiest thing you could try first would be to check your saddle valve that taps into your main water line to supply the ref. They are known for calcium deposits which obstruct the flow of water. This issue is IDed by very slow water pressure through th door. If its gunked your icemaker fill tube may also be frozen.

Hello. Hollow cubes is caused when there is not enough water going into the ice cube molds. That said, since you have too much water going into the water dispenser I would suspect that the valve needs to be cleaned or possibly replaced. Joe
