Question about ASUS WL-500B Wireless Router

1 Answer

A new router, recognizes the printer (HP Photosmart) and still won?t print from a distant location on the network.

The printer works fine when connecting it directly to the computer you?re printing from. It appears available in the ASUS utilities. I?ve already written to the ASUS support about this a month ago but no reply came. Whoever is familiar with the problem or solved it is welcome to contribute their insight.

I?m not sure about this one, but I think you should make sure there?s permission to access (share) the printer in the router and/or printer settings. If the printer is connected directly to the router, check if it?s in the right port and you?re not sending a print request to a different port. If that doesn?t help try to set it to another port in the router.

HP Photosmart C4780 and Acer Aspire fight over web-based printing!

Try hard-wiring your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable as a test and then try printing, if you do not loose connection to the internet then the problem is probably that the printing is hogging your wireless bandwidth.
If the same thing happens with loosing connection to the internet try connecting to the internet real quick through another computer that is hardwired, you want to find out if the problem is a wireless one or that affects wired computers also. You might need a driver upgrade, you also might need to upgrade the firmware of the router

Hp photosmart won't print in color

Blocked print head nozzles
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent blocked print head nozzles. You may have blocked print head nozzles.
Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the print then a new print head is required.
A new print head maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase a new printer.

Can i connect Hp F380 all in one printer to Linksys wrt54g, and i am using macbook, help

From looking at the printer information and the router information, you will probably need additional equipment to make this work.
The printer connects to computers using a USB cable. It does not have a network connection, either wired or wireless built in.
That means you need a print server to connect your printer to the network. Some routers have a print server built in, but the WRT54G isn't one of them.
The print server will have some USB ports to connect the printer to, and connect to the router with a cable, or wirelessly.
HP shows this option:
If you can find that one, it might work the best. Many print servers have a hard time with all-in-one devices. They are usually able to print just fine, but scanning is troublesome. Make sure to review information about any print server you get, or router with built in print server to make sure it does everything you need.
Considering the price of a print server, it might be a better option to get a new printer that has built in network support. They are more likely to work easily and well. But watch carefully to make sure it can do everything you need (print, scan etc) over the network.

To install a HP printer (with built-in Jetdirect print server) as a network printer you need to do the following -
1. Open the printer’s menu and enable the Network Card – then configure the IP address of the network card so it matches the IP range of your network. Eg. If your IP's are then set the network card to a high number say 100 then set the Subnet Mask IP address to

If you have a wireless router then check the IP addresses that the router issues to the computers on your network and configure the IP address in the printer accordingly.
2. Install the HP printer driver on your computer/s using the LPT printer port.
3. Connect the printer with a LAN cable to the network hub/router.
4. Click on Printers and Faxes - right click on the HP printer and click on Properties.
5. Click on Ports and click on Add Port.
6. In available ports - click on Standard TCP/IP Port and then Configure port.
7. Tick the IP box and type in the IP address of the HP's printer IP address.
8. Click OK and tick Enable bi-directional support and then OK

Install the HP printer driver on every computer on your network and configure the printer’s TCP/IP port as previously detailed.

Do a test print page to check the printer.
You can now print from any computer on your network.

Printer won´t work

The printers listed in here are older models. If you have purchased a printer in the last 2 years, your printer most likely will work with a print server. If your printer is not mentioned in this FAQ, it may work. If you are using a multi-function printer, only the printing function will work through the print server. Several kinds of printers are not supported on a network. These include host-based (sometimes referred to as GDI printers), and PPA printers. There are also printers designed for home use that are not intended for support on a traditional network, but that may work in a Home PNA network. In addition, several HP Officejets are not designed for or supported on networks. Host-based (sometimes referred to as GDI printers). A printer that relies on the computer´s processor to rasterize the print job. Most host-based printers use the GDI interface built into Windows (hence the "GDI printer" term), so there is no need to convert the data to PostScript, PCL, or other printer language. Some HP Deskjet printers are PPA (Printing Performance Architecture) printers. With this new printing system, the printer handles only basic printer functions while the printer software on the computer handles the formatting. All formatting, such as color matching and correction, half-toning, edge enhancement, tone correction, and ink management, are handled by the software driver. Furthermore, some of the printers listed below may work on a network, but only when they are connected to the parallel port of a Windows computer that has the correct printer driver installed and printer sharing properly configured. Contact the support group for you specific printer for details. These printers have a low duty cycle and are not designed for high volume network printing. The models listed below are not designed or supported on networks.
