all you have to do is install the os on the new hard dis you are about to install by using it as an secondary hard disk the hard disk to usb cable is available cheap at the local computer service points or can be done without much problems on a desktop then mount it directly and boot from it
plug the usb modem into usb slot of pc as normal. Bridge the connection between the internet connection and ethernet router connection in network page. Set router to ip add etc and it should share net access while pc is turned on atleast.
You can use this on a regular computer with a usb port. The product says its works with Windows 7 and my question would be, You have 7 installed on the computer right?

If your Windows OS is 64 Bit you can,t use it as you said ,your broadband.But i bet your problem is other.Usually if your broadband is from a USB then a driver is needed to set up your connection.But if is a cable connection you don,t need any.Post more clear any error messages.
Windows XP is not compatible with USB 2.0 ports. Could you confirm you have Service pack 2 or 3 installed. If not, you should install SP2, so they should work.
