My car cuts off occasionally. The battery light and the check engine light flashes then it turns off, but cranks right back up. Also the security light is solid and won't turn off

The security light is on because there is a communication problem in your antitheft system. The car stalls because it thinks its getting stolen and shuts down. Im gunna give this to ya real quick.

Your key has a transponder in the key head. This sends a radio type signal to your ignitions lock cylinder. The lock cylinder acccepts that signal (GOOD OR BAD) and passes it on to the THEFT DETERRENT MODULE (TDM). The TDM then decides if that is the correct signal, and if it is, it will allow your fuel injectors to work like normal. The problem is that when your system loses this signal (even for a second) or is not getting any signal at all, the antitheft kicks in and shuts down the fuel injectors. The hard part is figuring out where the problem is.

SECURITY LIGHT FLASHING = Key or Ignition.

SECURITY LIGHT SOLID = TDM

I found this link and it has alot of good info on it, plus pictures and DO IT YOURSELF ways to fix this http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

2006 Cadillac DTS. I need wiring diagram for it please?

Hi Joan Whittaker, what does no crank mean.
the starter motor is dead? some posters call d crank= running engine.
which engine there? cranks fast but will not start.
underhood fuse box f24 blown?
step 2 after all fuses checked is:
shift to Neutral see if that allows cranking per my red circle below
is PCM control.
is the dash IMMO lamp happy?

as you can see the pcm decides to do the cranking or not
via its starter relay.
if you scanned the PCM it will tell you why it id not start.
immo error OR A/t PRNDL (TRS) ERRORS. OOPS

dts-undefined-undefined-0.jpg the IMMO page in your users guide covers IMMO
if key 1 fails try key2, car came with 2 keys new.
READ ALL PAGES ON IMMO FIRST

If the engine does not start and the Security System
Light comes on
Security System Light (CLUSTER LAMP ICON LOOKS LIKE CAR CUT IN HALF WITH A PADLOCK, never ignore this lamp.

What could keep my coil from firing ? I have the Ignition control signal and 12v. while cranking over engine at the top primary wiring of coil. Can you help me get spark?

Sounds like the security system is causing your problem. Is the "security" light flashing? If it is, turn the key on, leave the key in the ON position for 10 minutes. The light will stop flashing. Now, turn OFF the key, turn it back to ON, and then crank it. It should start. If the security light starts flashing again, go through the process again until it starts. This is resetting the security system after the battery has died, battery has been changed, radio was changed, instrument cluster was removed and replaced, etc. Hope this works for you.

Random times of no crank

If the security light is flashing, the chip in the key or the sensor in the key lock may be faulty. If the engine computer "sees" the right chip in the key, it allows the engine to start.
If the light is not flashing you would need to check for power at the starter when the engine will not crank. Also try cranking in neutral.

Oldsmoble Alero ignition security problem

It doesn't have to be the security. a dead battery won't let the car crank either. With a security problem the car will crank but not start. The security can be reset if the battery is charged and up. Turn the key on ( do'nt crank ) the security light will stay on if it needs to be reset. If it remains on leave the key on for 15 minutes around then it will go out. turn the key off and then turn it right back on, the security light will be on again. Leave the key on till the light goes out again, then turn it off then turn it back on , wait again when it goes out turnthe key off then right back on then crank the engine and it should start. With a scanner the code will be security neweds to be reset. Thia is all anyone can do to reset the security and it's what you were charged $450 for. Following directions.

2006 pontiac torrent shut down car will just crank, not start

The factory alarm is not to be tampered with as you can reset it but not disconnect it as it's part of the main fuel injection system. Do you have the right key? Just because it turns and cranks doesn't mean it has the right code. the security light off with the key on ut not cranking? If it stays on you do have a security problem. The system can be reset ( if the battery is good, and hot. Trun the key to crank and letgo the security light will but on or blinking . Leave the key on till the light goes out (around 15 minutes. Once it's out turn the key off then back on and the security light will be back on again. again wait till it goes out turn off then on again till the light goes out. Now turn the key off wait a few seconds trun it on and crank the engine. If it starts then it's reset. Sometimes I've had to do this more than three times to get it to reconize the key as the right one. rember a store cut key won't ever work as it doesnt have the (brain in it the the factory key does. Lets say your wrong, about the security system. The fuel pumps go bad like crazy and its thier season to fail. They fail quicker if you $5 the car alot. (runing on empty) Was the check engine light on as it ran the last time it was running? If so the codes need to be retieved and repaired. A scanner will find the security enabled on too.
