Ice dispenser broke

I have a kenmore side by side, the plastic piece that holds the pin
that holds the flap in place is broke. Sears told me that I would have to
buy a new door. Is there another fix.

I have a kenmore side by side 106.5736*702, and my ice dispenser went out two days ago. It continues to make ice, but I can't use the dispenser. What could be the problem. The shute does not close...

I also have a Kenmore side by side 106.5736*702 with the same problem where the flap on the ice maker was coming loose. Ice was not dispensing and I was getting frost inside of the freezer. I think I fixed it but I have a feeling that this will keep happening due to the nature of how the unit was built. I am not at all a repair person, I am a stay at home mom of three. So my descriptions may not be great, so please be patient.
On the outside panel where the buttons are (push for cubed iced, crushed ice, light, lock...), there are two small rectangle shaped holes on the bottom. Place a screwdriver through them and lightly pry the panel off. Pry the bottom off first and the top will lift off. There you will find the "electrical" panel. You will need to unplug the panel from the wires. Once that is removed, you will see another panel where the light is connected to. There are two plastic tabs holding this panel in place. Carefully pull the tabs back and take out the panel. This panel is also wired to the fridge. I left this panel hanging and did not disconnect the wires. After this panel is "out of the way", you wll find the ice dispenser components. Locate your problem. I had a loose bar that I had to reattach. This was simple but I broke one of the plastic clips that holds the bar up, so be very careful. Once everything is fixed, put everything back.

I don't know if this really helps but at least you can get behind the front panel and work "inside" the dispenser.

Ice dispenser has black ugly gunk from which the ice drops. It is the rubber flapper that opens and shut that is dirty. Question. can the rubber flap be removed to wash?

It;'s possible, but not recommended. The pin that holds the door into place is metal, but the hinges are plastic and have been known to break pretty easily. They do make a replacement kit in case you break the hinges, but that job is usually best left to a professional.

I have a Whirlpool side by side with an ice dispenser. The little door that closes on the outside opening of the ice dispenser has come loose from its bracket. I cannot get to it to reattach it, or even...

if it has become loose, the pin that holds the disp door came be put back into place. if the plastic tab that holds the pin into place broke, you will need to have a kit installed that has a metal bracket. that should be done by a tech. hope this helps.

The ice dispenser rubber door or seal does not close allowing warm air back into the freezer and causing frost buildup. How difficult is that rubber seal to replace.

Remove the top freezer hinge cover and disconnect the plug there . This will remove power to the door . At the bottom of the dispenser cover , but inside the dispensing area , between the grill and the cover , insert a small screwdriver about 1 " in on both sides , and push down and inward , forcing the bottom of the cover outward . Do this carefully , due to plastic tabs on the dispenser cover . After bottom is loose , lift upward , to release the top plastic slots of the cover . Disconnect the plug on the cover . Remove the 2 screws holding the dispenser housing , and slide forward . You should now be able to see the door flap , return spring and pin . You will have to see which part(s) are needed or what the situation is . Maybe pin slid out , maybe the clear plastic ice guide , connected to the dispenser activator arm , broke loose , obstructing the closure of the door flap . Come back with your findings and a model number , and myself or another expert , will be glad to give you part numbers .

Ice Maker Trap door may be broken

I am having the same problem. My husband took off the front panel and we discovered there is a small piece of plastic holding the ice dispenser door in place that is broken so the door doesn't seal.

I called Sears to see if the part is replaceable -- it's not. I have to buy an entire freezer door for $464 because a .10 cent piece of plastic is broken.

This seems to be a common problem. My refrigerator is only 3 years old. Perhaps we need to make a complaint to Sears/Kenmore together.

Whirlpool pin retainer is broken on ice dispenser

this is easy. there is a small area beside where the piece broke off. bend a small peice of metal coat hanger at a 90 degree angle, (this is so you can make your new hole on the correct line) heat the end with a lighter, burn a smallhole thru this area beside where the previous hole existed. now throw away the old pin that you were using and use a piece of coat hanger cut to the right length. on one end bend about one half inch to 90 degree angle, feed thru new hole and thru your spring and flap and thru to opposite side hole and lastly make small bend to keep wire from sliding out. ta da, fixed. problem solved for about two cents. i have successfully repaired many of these doors.
