Iomega HDD2H Exteral USB/Firewire Drive

Recently the drive just stopped working. It sounds like it does not actually wind up and the Power Supply fan in the back does not rotate.....

This unit has dual 650MB Drives internally that are stripped for Raid.....

Power Supply possibly? If so, where can I get parts for this unit?

Thanks!

Kevin

I have an iomega HDD2H dual drive that also has a power supply problem. MySunFone power supply lights the lights and fan of the housing but doesn't turn the drives. This has been problematic for months now and finally just quit. What to do?

Exactly right. This has happened to me on two occasions, renew the power transformer and that will solve your problem.

The problem is the external Power Supply, I used an old power supply from a dead LaCie BigDisk (same plug & pinout) and the Iomega Drive is now working fine   ;)

I have a similar problem to dmingo but when I plug in my drive (HDD2H) it imediately powers on but I can't switch it off or access the disks. The external power supply is making a rather odd hissing sound. I've tried other external PSUs and it does the same thing ... it is quite old (I think).
Any ideas?

Loose hardware

There are not many parts in a hard drive.
  • Data platters (secured with 5 or 6 screws)
  • logic board (doesn't move)
  • Actuator arm moves rapidly to read data.

Some whining or crunching sound is normal. I'd say either the logic board is burnt out, the reader head crashed or the data platters have lots of bad sectors. If it isn't working or detected your best bet is to replace it.

I recently brought a MAC I need a driver for my Iomega LPHD-UP. Can you help me?

Actually the driver should be self contained with in the hard drive and it should mount itself to macs. You could try this official troubleshooting from Iomega: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1478/related/1.
Now if your using firewire you may try this updater but only if you are using firewire: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16760/related/1

External hard drive

Yes, no problems, if the USB hard drive draws too much power you will need to attach an external power supply, usually the small laptop 21/2" drivers don't need external power supplies.

I recently purchased an external hard drive, and how do connect it to my computer.

External Hard Drive is mostly of the USB interfacing type. If urs one is the same, then it is just as simple as plugging in a pen drive in the USB port. If it has external power supplies then u can easily figure out how to connect. There are two parts in the power supply (if external power supply cable is provided), 3-pin main power supply connector and other is the adapter which goes to the external hard drive.plug in the other end of the adapter into the hard drive (there is a hole in it). connect the main power cable to the adapter extension. now for the usb Hard Drive, connect the USB cable to the USB port of the computer. Switch on the power supply to the Hard drive and u r ready to use ur brand new External Hard Drive. If it is a Firewire interfacing one then u may need to open the CPU box, and then connect the firewire connector on to the motherboard firewire port. It is easy to identify, it is a red colored port/connector.

Your USB port does not have enough power to support the drive. You will need to use an external power source of try a firewire cable if the drive has that option.
