-   I've got a sold amber light after a total freeze up on my computer. tried restarting to no avail... pulled video card didnt change anything. I get the keyboard check and hard disk spin but no video and its not completing the boot (no bios beeps as there is no internal speaker)
i found a refurbished motherboard here:

http://www.txcesssurplus.com/servlet/the-3590/Dell-Optiplex-GX260-Motherboard/Detail

im thinking of just starting over with these parts and keeping everything else in the case (harddrive, dvd drive, etc)
XFX GeForce 8200 Motherboard CPU Bundle - AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Processor 2.60GHz Black Edition

EVGA GeForce 8500 GT Video Card - 1GB GDDR2, PCI Express, SLI Ready, (Dual Link) DVI, VGA, HDTV

Corsair XMS2 DHX 2048MB Dual Channel PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)

any suggestions (this rebuild would cost me $190 plus shipping)
what do you think?

-   I had just cleaned the fans (power supply and processor) of my optiplex GX260 PC. I started it the first and it worked well. I then restarted and changed the hard disk. It just stalled. When I opened I observed an orange/amber light that comes on and just stays on. But nothing else works. HELP!-   Guest

workaround - i have the same problem with my dell gx260 but have a work around. unplug the power cord and let the unit sit for about 2 minutes. if you open the case you will see a large yellow led light on the motherboard. wait for the light to go out then plug the unit back in and power up. this works most every time on my machine but occassionally i need to repeat it.

i suspect it is the power supply not powering the hard disks and not a problem with the motherboard.

good luck

1st remove all PCI cards, see if anything changes.  If no change\:
If the power LED is solid AMBER, replace the motherboard
If Flashing AMber, replace the power supply
