Question about Digital Video Systems Plenio VXA-3000 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

SD card reader seems to be dead

My SD card reader was acting funny for a while, the spring system was broken, so you could get the card out only with your nail, but the unit was working.
Now it says it can't find the SD card at all. Otherwise, the unit is OK, the touchscreen and everything else works fine.
I'm afraid the card reader itself is screwed up.

Any ideas?

Please insert the memory card. I have a brand new 4 GB SD card and what should i do to start using

Best thing you can do, get a card reader, hook that up into your computer, check the sd card and make sure that it is blank. Then copy the the original sd card to the new sd card, put the original card away in a safe place and keep it for when you need to reinstall a new sd card. Of course if you don't want to do that then just stick the original sd card into the side of the gps unit and use it till it starts to act up. At which point you will need yet another original sd card from the manufacturer. It's a viscous cycle. Hope this helps

Won't start, seems to be a problem with the card

If you have an SD card installed then
Remove the SD card from the tomtom
The card may need to be formatted properly first or re-formatted.
Formatting is better done in a card reader.
There are differing views but this method has always worked for me.
Insert the card in the reader,. Using my computer or windows explorer right click on it and select format
select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom to the pc but don't let tomtom home run.
Exit TomTom Home if need be.
You now need to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive and may even show its own special icon.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options.
Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.
then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card.
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on your new card switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card and re-boot the TomTom
It should now work.
If not try the hard re-set in which you would use a paperclip to reset the tomtom. there should be a tiny hole on the underside of the unti.
push the paperclip in there (not too hard) while the unit is switched on
This would cause a reset to factory defaults (you may have to set home location etc)
You may also have to switch off and re-boot again for it to take effect.

Red cross on sd card on startup

You can not use a sd card from one TomTom and put it into another TomTom. The operating system on the card is coded for each individual TomTom device. First try doing a reset with the card installed on your dads TomTom. The reset hole is on the bottom of the TomTom marked reset Use a streightened paper clip, insert the paper clip into the hole until you feel a click then hold it in for 20 seconds. If that didn't work and you have a card reader insert your dads sd card into the reader and make a backup of the everything on the sd card. Just copy and paste everything on the card to a folder on the desktop you have created on your desktop. Next delete everything on the sd card EXCEPT the maps and ttgo.bif or ttgo.bak file. Now that you have made a backup and deleted everything on the sd card except for the maps and ttgo.bif or ttgo.bak open TomTom Home. TomTom Home should see your card and install the operating system back onto the sd card. If it doesn't you may have to insert the sd card back into your dads TomTom and connect it to the pc. It may take a few times of doing this to get the latest operating system back onto your dads TomTom. You can do the same for your TomTom, but you cannot use any thing bigger than a 2 gb sd card. Do not get sdhc cards they won't work. This will only put the operating system for your TomTom onto the sd card. When you have installed the operating system onto your device it will say "no maps found", you will have to buy the map from TomTom..

My GPS is missing most maps & I cannot seem to transfer from cd

the maps are on the 1gb sd card in the side of your c220 unit.
If it's missing, get a 1gb sd card and find a computer that will accept sd cards and your cd that came with your gps, then download the maps from the cd to the sd card.
Your c220 only has 4 states on the unit itself.

The c230 has all the maps on the unit but only 1 million POIs versus 3 1/2 million on the c220

Reformat sd card for tomtom one

FIRST THING , Backup the SD card. To format an SD card you insert SD card into card reader slot on a PC or a SD card reader. Then find the SD card Icon in 'my computer'. Then hover over it with the mouse and right click , choose 'format' from that drop-down menue. REMEMBER .... EVERYTHING ON THE CARD WILL BE DELETED ! *** WARNING *** The card will not work in the tomtom once it has been formatted.

Garmin Nuvi 200W SD card Problem

The problem is that the US 2008NT map takes up about 900MB, the update itself will push that up to 947MB. The Nuvi 200w has an internal memory of 1GB, the Help folder takes about 35MB and the text and speech files for all those other languages that you don't use or understand takes up about 30MB. So if you add all those up you come up with more than 1GB, and the SD card cannot be used for the US mapset (preloaded). It can only be used for additional map sets that you want to add like Europe, Mexico, Australia etc etc. So how do you update? Well you are going to have to decide if you really need all those extra voice and text languages such as Aafrikans, German, Spanish etc etc. If not, get rid of them. Also consider getting rid of the Help Folder since it's actually pretty useless, but I leave that up to you to decide.

Now for 3-belmont-E, your friends and yourself should have realized that the Garmin units read SD, not SD-HC which are different. When you got the 1GB SD card, it should come up as another drive. It will not show up as a folder on the Garmin unit itself, for example....
Your main drive is C: and your CD/DVD is D:, when you plug in the Garmin it becomes E: but if you have an SD card that will become F: so in reality your Garmin device will now be E and F, with F being the SD card. This is of course if the SD reader in the unit did not get damaged by you guys putting in the SD-HC card into it.

Tomtom1 memory

The way the TomTom One works (unfortunately) is that it reads either from the SD slot of from internal memory, but not both. So you can't have the SD act as supplemental memory. I had the same problem and was pretty peeved about it. You would have to spring for a more expensive model to get this feature :S
