Re: Hard Disc question

In principle the XBOX 360 is designed in a way that anything connected to it via USB is read only. So you can use the HD, but you can?t download anything to it.

How to download a profile to a x box 360

There are two ways to move/download your xbox 360 profile. One way is is download it via an internet connection and the other is physically transferring it via usb drive.

To download your profile press the xbox button in the middle of your controller to access the xbox guide and then select download profile.
If you do not see this option sign out of your profile first.
Then enter your profile information. If you do not know your information check out this site in order to retrieve it.
The rest should be pretty easy. Just follow the prompts and your profile will start downloading.

The second option requires some sort of external memory device like a USB drive. This option still needs your account information so make sure you still have that handy.
Plug your external memory device via the USB ports on the front of the console (or the one on the back if those are full). Then go to settings in the xbox home page and then select storage, All Devices, Gamer Profiles. Select the Profile you want to move and then select Move. Move your profile to the external and reverse the process on the target console to upload the profile to the hard drive.

If any of these instructions are confusing or you would like more detail, check out this xbox support website for more information.

I try to download stuff off the internet but it keeps saying connect storage media at the save destination what does this mean

File formats that the PS3 doesn't recognize as something that it can play can only be saved to a USB storage device, or a memory card. You can't download anything to the PS3 hard drive via the browser that you couldn't copy to it from a USB storage device. That is what the error message means. You have to connect an external storage device, because the PS3 won't store this file format on the internal drive. This protects the integrity of the system. If you connect a USB drive or memory card (you will need a USB adapter for the memory card if you don't have a launch PS3), then you can download anything that you want using the PS3 web browser.

How to connect an extenal hard drive to my Xbox?

Get an external hard drive with a USB 2.0 connection. You need this connection to connect the drive to the console. Most recently manufactured hard drives
should have this type of USB adapter included. Format the hard drive to read FAT32 files. Using a Windows PC, create an FAT32 partition on the drive and format the volume. You'll need a program like
Partition Magic to do this. Load all the content you want from your PC onto the external drive. This should consist of photo files, MP3s and any other files that can be read on the Xbox
hard drive. Remove the external hard drive from your PC. Plug it into your Xbox 360 console through the USB port. go to the Media menu on your Xbox screen. Select "Portable Device" from the menu. All the readable files saved on the external drive should be available to
read on your Xbox 360 I am also adding a video//check it out if doubt persists.. vote for me...

X-box 360s brand new, cannot get it to download the update

The easiest option to update the Xbox 360 hard drive is to connect to Xbox Live. The console will automatically prompt the user to install any available updates. Alternatively, users can download the update files to a USB flash drive to transfer to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

Update via Xbox Live

Open the Xbox 360 dashboard menu. This menu automatically appears when the console is turned on. Press the "Xbox" button, followed by the "Y" button to return to the dashboard menu from a game.

Scroll up to the "My Xbox" tab of the dashboard menu.

Select "System Settings" from the "My Xbox" section of the dashboard. Scroll to the right while the "My Xbox" tab is selected to reach the "System Settings" icon.

Select "Network Settings" from the "System Settings" menu.

Select "Test Xbox Live Connection" from the network settings. A prompt will appear to update the Xbox 360 hard drive if your system is not already updated to the latest version.

Select "Yes, update now" to install the latest updates to your Xbox 360 hard drive.

Updating via USB Flash Drive

Copy the update files onto the root directory of your USB flash drive. You can download the Xbox 360 update files by going to$ You must extract the files from the .zip file before placing them on the USB drive. The update files cannot be placed into a folder or the Xbox 360 system will not recognize them.

Remove the flash drive from your computer.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port on the Xbox 360 console.

Turn on the Xbox 360. An update prompt will appear when the system powers up.

Select "Yes, update now" to update the Xbox 360 hard drive.

Hi miraya666,

This normally happens because of your internet connection or not enough space on your hard drive.Verify you have some space on your HD, if you do - I would recommend updating a different way. Here are some ways:

Copy the Update to a USB Flash Drive The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.
Update using a USB flash drive:
  1. Connect your USB flash drive to a USB port on your computer.
  2. Go to the Xbox download page to download the update folder.
  3. Save $SystemUpdate_ to your desktop.
  4. Unzip the File.
  5. Copy the contents from the unzipped folder onto the root of your flash drive.
  6. Safely remove the flash drive from your computer and plug it into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
  7. If your console is on, turn it off, then back on.
  8. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now.
  9. When you see the new dashboard, you're done.
Copy the Update to a CD or DVD To do this, you need a blank CD or DVD (either will work) and a computer that can burn files to the type of disc you have.
Burn the Update to a CD or DVD:
  1. Go to the Xbox download page to download the update folder.
  2. Save it as $SystemUpdate_ anywhere on your computer.
  3. Place a blank disc in your computer's disc burner.
  4. Unzip the file.
  5. From the Windows Explorer, double-click on the CD or DVD drive that you're using to burn the disc.
  6. Drag the contents of the unzipped folder into the root of the CD or DVD drive.
  7. In the windows explorer window, right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD. The NXE update filename and folder structure must be unchanged for the update to run properly.
  8. Follow the steps in the CD wizard. When you finish, the CD or DVD will eject, and your disc is ready.
  9. Put the CD or DVD in your box 360 console.
  10. Turn your console off, then back on.
  11. The update will start automatically. Select Yes, update now.
  12. When you see the new dashboard, you're done.
Before giving me less than a very help full rating, please give me a chance to be very help full! Thanks!
