Question about HP PSC 2110 Color Printer

1 Answer

Printing I chatted with moseclive about a problem I have with printing. When I click on print i get "Unable to start driver for HPZipm12.exe(HPZipm12.exe). I also got a message "Unable to start the application - the Java Virtual Machine cannnot be loaded. Class not negotiated". Moseclive suggested I download JVM using the link java-virtual-machine.net. This took me to a home site for Java and selections were confusing. I did pick one that said download JVM. But nothing happened. Is this a free download?

Mmacko1:

When I saw your chat go through, I knew that I was not prepared at that time to sufficiently help you address your issues - despite my numerous years (20+/-) of experience with HP equipment - primarily because my personal experience with both of these topics was fairly limited. I have not personally experienced issues with the particular driver mentioned, and my issues with java have been less complex.

However, perhaps for these reasons, as strengthened by my unique involvement with the HP brand, I was intrigued by these issues - enough that I spent a great deal of time researching both matters. [Please note that I refer to both matters, because they are two separate issues. The fact that they have both happened to appear at about the same time, if this is the case, appears to be relatively unrelated.]

As I recall, this was the problem submitted to a live chat session. This may be incorrect, but it seems very similar. It appears, as the issues have continued to be posted, that the problems you had have not been resolved. Therefore, I would like to share with you the results of my research, and I hope, serve as an effective vehicle to facilitate actual resolution of your issues.

I do not know, even with review of your numerous postings, what operating system and other equipment you are utilizing. However, I believe this may come into play only at certain times in selecting the appropriate download or the proper procedure for altering a setting within your system. Within my further responses, which you will find associated with the relevant posts (in order to attempt to clarify the issues and prevent confusion), you will see that I have generally assumed (?!) that you are running an XP OS. This decision was based primarily on the timing of release for the product you have indicated is at issue, and the inherent issues of the problems themselves.

Finally, it appears that the message received in regard to the driver is as stated; however, I believe that the actual message you have seen in regard to java, at the end, reads "Class not registered" as opposed to "Class not negotiated". Thank you for your consideration of these matters, and I trust that you will find this information helpful, and that your issues will be resolved. Please rest assured that I will work with you until the problems are handled, and we have reached a "FixYa" level of service...

Printer was working, but is not now. All cables are hooked up properly and have been disconnected and reconnected. I have several documents in the memory to be printed, but the printer will not respond. ...

Here are four things you can try; may not have to perfom all:

Check to see if your printer is off-Line

1.Open the Printers, Printer and Faxes, or Device and Printers folder.

To do this:

Windows XP users; Click on Start > Settings > Printers an Faxes or Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

Windows Vista users; Click on Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Printers.

Windows 7 users; Click on Start > Device and Printers.

2.Right-click on the printer object (icon), and select Use Printer Online.

3.Microsoft Windows 7 users will double-click on icon, select printer and then de-select Use Printer Offline.

Printer Paused

The printer or print queue is paused and the print queue icon remains in the notification area ('systray') of the task bar.

Explanation:This is typically an end user error. Hint: Dragging the mouse cursor over the print queue icon in the notification area will reveal (1,2,3) document(s) pending for (User name).

What to do:

•Double-click on the print queue icon to open the print queue.
•Click on Printer in the upper left-hand corner of the menu bar.
•Is there a check mark next to Pause Printing?

-If yes, click on Pause Printing to turn off this Windows feature.

-If no, confirm that there is a check mark next to Set As Default Printer and make sure Use Printer Offline is not selected.

Delete print jobs from the print queue

Access the print queue.

Delete all print jobs

• Click on Printer in the toolbar and then click on Cancel All Documents,
or
• Right-click in the print queue and select Cancel All Documents from the pop-up menu.

You can also delete individual print jobs

1.Highlight the individual job in the print queue by clicking on it.

2.Right-click on the highlighted job and select Cancel from the pop-up menu.

IMPORTANT! If a job is stuck in the print queue and cannot be deleted or canceled using the above steps, there may be an issue with the printer spooler that controls the printing options in Windows. If you observe this symptom, it may be necessary to stop and restart the print spooler; then retrun to delete print jobs.

How to Stop and Restart the Print Spooler

Problem:

Unable to cancel print jobs; Unable to print; Print queue is unresponsive; Locked print queue; Unable to print; Cannot cancel print job; Printer driver not responding

Solution:

The print spooler controls print options within Windows. A problem with the print spooler can affect printer driver performance and Windows print queue responsiveness. Stop and Start the print spooler to see if observed symptoms subside or remain.

Method 1: Using Administrative Tools

Step Action

1 Click on the Windows logo start button.

2 Click on Control Panel on the right-hand side of the start menu contents.

3 Click on Maintenance.
4 Click on Administrative Tools.

5 Click on Services. NOTE: You may have to provide an administrator profile and password.
6 Scroll through the list and look for Print Spooler.

7
The following two options are available to stop and start the print spooler:

•Click once on Print Spooler to highlight it, and then click on the Stop or Start links in the right-hand window pane,
or
•Double-click on Print Spooler, and click on the Stop button followed by the Start button.

8 Observe the status column in the Services window to verify that the print spooler is stopped or started as applicable.
