Question about Toshiba SD-3990 DVD Player

1 Answer

Display says "no"

I have just been given this model from a neighbour. All instructions are in French. The DVD has never been used. Once the disk is in - it displays "no". Is this the same as "no disk". If this is the case I would think there is a mechanical problem. She thought it may have something to do with the parental setup. Hope you can help. Thanks!

I had the same problem with the unit displaying the word "no."

Take the cover off and disconnect the two ribbon wires on the PC board, then reconnect them. It's a peice of cake.

I've just got given a audiosonic DVD player, and would like some help to get the language from French I think to English, also its a new DVD of Jurassic world I'm trying to watch

If it looks like French it probably is.

Use translator from phone or computer. They come in handy and probably faster. Good Luck and enjoy the movie!

If you do not have the remote you may have to set up a universal to access the feature.

It wont play the dvd it is not the dvd its the player

The dvd lens in your system is probably dirty from sitting and normal use. Every so often we are supposed to clean the lens. Taking it apart is a more complicated process but purchasing a lens cleaning kit and cd and following the instructions below should do the trick.

  • DVD lens cleaning kit, you can purchase at many local stores or online. Walmart should have it as well as amazon.
  1. Place the lens cleaning disk into your DVD player's tray bristle side down. (The DVD will have a small row of fine bristles used to clean the DVD heads.) Push in the tray.
  2. Listen to the instructions for your DVD head cleaner. You should be able to find the instructions on Track 1 of the DVD cleaning disk.
  3. Choose an option from the on-screen prompts. You will have choices like express cleaning or standard.
  4. Remove the cleaning disk once it has run its course. Your Panasonic DVD player heads should now be clean

Hello,

The simplest way is to use a TV cable. One end is plugged in cable OUTPUT of DVD the other to the Cable INPUT of TV.
Other way RCA audioVideo cables (Generally Yellow is video, White is Left Audio, Red is Right Audio. But is not really important becaus
the jacks are color coded. Red to Red, Yellow to Yellow, White to White. Wires must comme out OUTPUT of DVDplayer and enter into INPUT of TV.
Even if colors are different there are not many possible combinations.

In the French manual, you can look at the pictures. They are rather explict.
Hope it helps.

Hack region code for SV2000

I found this info.....it doesn't work for my model SV2000 ( WV806 ) , but it might for yours SV2000 ( WV10D6 )

With the recorder on stop, not on a menu screen. press on remote; CMSKIP-1-2-3. this will take you to a page labeled "F/W VERSION DISP" this will display the current firmware version and model numbers. To exit , press the "RETURN" button. DO NOT PRESS "OK" on remote , pressing "OK" will reset your player settings.

View disk manufacturer information:

with a disk inserted into recorder and stoped, not on a menu screen; press on remote CMSKIP-1-2-3 to go to firmware information screen.press the rigth arrow "->" once. this will display the disk media type and disk manufacturer ID. To exit, press the left arrow "<-" once to go to the firmware display screen, then press the "RETURN" button. DO NOT PRESS "OK" on remote , pressing "OK" will reset your player settings.

Disc Error

Try to clean the read laser and the laser pickup, by using a DVD cleaning disk. If this does not work you may have a misaligned laser or pickup.

That may sound like a canned response and it is, however it is a good start. I would also check the format of the video on the DVD-RW, and make sure the DVD player is set to display that format.  Also might I suggest that you try the documented Disk loading instructions. I know that sounds stupid, but I was working on a customers DVD player one day and I downloaded the manual, and I was shocked to find out that I was not following the recommended loading procedure, once I did that all of the disks worked (stupid? yes, but that's how things are now).
As I said try to clean the pick-up and laser, check the format of the DVDs, and then follow the recommended loading instructions.

I hope this helps
Thank you,
