I have service pack 2 and im thinking to upgrading it to server pack 3 because I have lots of problem with service pack 2. For ex. My control panel in the add and remove program. All programs don't show. And other things I have to fix. If I update will it be better and fix my problems? Also I'm kinda confused. It tells me to close all open programs and back up my system. If I don't back up my system, will my files, games, etc. be there still? Thanks.

As long as you have a genuine version of windows, you need to install service pack 3, from here which has service pack 2 within it and all the latest updates

After loading service pack 2, my system is running much slower. memory 512. help

you need to increase your virtual memory (since you upgraded your service pack, most likely it will consume more ram)

from My Computer - Right Click > Properties

Then click on the Advanced Tab > Then click on perfomance settings

Then Click advance > Virtual Memory Settings

You can change it to say, 1000 (since you have 512 RAM ) to support the excess applications.

Let me know what happens.

What Does It Mean When Support for My Operating System Ends?

Microsoft Support for Windows Vista (with no service packs installed) ended on April 13, 2010, while support for Windows XP (without Service Pack 3 installed) ended on July 13, 2010. Windows 2000 support ended on July 13, 2010 as well.
There is no Service Pack 3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
If you are still running a version of Windows where support has ended, it means that version of Windows will no longer receive any updates from the Windows Update or Microsoft Update site. These updates are generally provided for security reasons to help protect the PC from harmful viruses, spyware, malware, and other malicious software. Windows Update also provides new drivers for your hardware that can improve the reliability of Windows.
Hackers love to take a security vulnerability in Windows and exploit it to their advantage. So, if a vulnerability is found in Windows XP or Windows Vista and you are not running the latest service pack, you will not be protected and will be at risk.

How Can I Tell What Service Pack is Installed?
Follow these steps to discover what Service Pack is installed:
1) Click on the Start Button
2) Right-click on either My Computer or Computer (depending on your Windows version)
3) Click on Properties
On this window, it should tell you which version of Windows along with which service pack is installed). It should also tell you whether you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit version of Windows.

My windows vista is running a lot slower after the service pack 1 update and i would either like to remove that update or reboot my computer to its original state. How would I do that?

To uninstall an update, go to the control panel (Start --> Control Panel). Select Add/Remove programs. When this launches, check the "Show Updates" box in the top of the window. Scroll to the Microsoft or Windows section, and you should see the Service Pack 1 update. Clicking on this gives you a button to remove it.

I need to up grade my windows 2000 to windows xp

First you need to make sure that your computer meets the following specifications:
- 300 MHz (or higher processor)
- Intel Pentium/Celeron or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron compatible processor.
- 128 MB of RAM (or higher)
- 1.5 Gigabytes of available hard disk space
- Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor.

I am sure that your computer likely meets all of these requirements, but I posted them to save you the grief if by chance it does not meet one of the above!

In a moment I will post a link to a website where you can purchase an upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP home edition (Service Pack 2).

Once you have the software, start up windows 2000 and place the disk into the CDROM drive. You should be given an option to upgrade to XP. (make sure you start the disk while you are on the Windows 2000 desktop with all programs closed). After XP is installed if your computer does not have an Antivirus program installed, I strongly recommend either installing Norton Antivirus or AVG. AVG is free and can be downloaded from http://www.avg.com/. Then make sure that your windows firewall is turned on. (It should be automatically) After this go to Microsoft.com and download service pack 3 and any additional updates needed.

The upgrade version of Windows XP home with service pack 2 can be purchased from newegg.com by clicking on this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16837116194.

I hope that this information has been helpful to you. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

May 12th, 2008: Some customers reported problems installing Studio Plus version 11 UPGRADE (11.0) or Studio version 11 Standard (11.0) on systems with Windows XP Service Pack 3 was already installed (a message asking for Windows XP Service Pack 2 is displayed). Pinnacle is investigating this problem.
We can offer you the following workaround:
  • Copy all the content of the Installation DVD of Studio version 11 to your hard disk in a new folder.
  • Download http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Studio11/WelcomeSP3.exe
  • Copy the file WelcomeSP3.exe to the root of the directory where the Installation DVD was copy
  • Double-click on WelcomeSP3.exe to launch it. It will take few seconds and then the Studio version 11 installation will start.

Can't upgrade the USB ports to Version 2.0

Hi cogilbert,
I had a similar problem with my PC which had older version 1 USB. I purchased a USB 2 PCI card with USB Hub, installed and problem solved. It really not a very expensive proposition. The card comes with the necessary software and drivers. It works great.
