I am setting up my new canon printer, scanner and fax. I hooked up the machine to my computer. I put the disk in but I can't get the computer to read the disk. What do I do?

You need to check the settings for scanning. The machine wants to use the platen because that is what it has been set up to do, or you are using a sheet size the machine doesn't know about. Again go through the scanner settings both on the machine and any attached computers.
The network setting for the scanner driver may be incorrect. Check the IP address of your scanner and then set the IP address on the scanner driver.
1- The steps of setting the IP address may differ depending on your operating system.
For XP operating system:
Click Start > Control Panel > Printers and Other Hardware > Scanners and Cameras.
For windows 7 operating system:
Start > Control Panel > ... View scanners and cameras.
2- Right click on the scanner icon for your machine and select Properties.
3- Click Network Setting tab and select Specify your machine by address.
4- Enter the IP Address you confirmed from the snanner menu or ask your network administrator and click OK.
You can scan text I am assuming? If so that sounds like a memory problem. Depending on the model, it can be either the printer memory, or, more and more printers use the computers memory, you may need to clean up your computers memory to have enough working memory. I would assume the latter, I really do not like the new printer/scanners that do not have their own memory. This is just a recent thing. And this problem is popping up everywhere. So do a disk cleanup on your computer and see if that helps.
Ok, connect the printer to the computer, put in paper and the toner, turn the printer on, and if your computer is Windows, click START>SETTINGS>PRINTERS AND FAXES>ADD PRINTER
Go through the wizards to install the printer.
Or if you have the HP install disk, hook up and power on the printer, put the install disk in, and go through the install routine.
Cannot figure how to hook up Canon MP830 all in one fax with remote answering machine. I can plug in phone line to send faxes fine but when hooked up in same hole and the phone rings it goes immediately to fax and can't receive phone calls. Maybe i have phone line hooked up in wrong place on my machine. The answering machine is in our master bedroom on the other side of the house. With my last a canon also i had it hooked up to go to fax after a certain amount of rings and it worked fine. That machine got fried by lightening and i replaced it with this machine. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i really need this fax hooked up all the time for my business.
