I cannot get Sunbelt VIPRE to install on my computer.

When I try to install it I get a message stating "ERROR 1402 could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel".

if you are seeing this 1402 error for install and uninstall, theremay be some corruption in your registry. If you were on XP, I would sayrun scanreg /fix to try and fix the registry,

"access denied" in XP

Introduction:

When installing or uninstalling the printer driver, a message may appear stating that access is denied. This may occur in Windows 2000 or XP. It may be necessary to edit the registry of the computer to resolve this issue.

Editing the registry with the instructions in this document may bypass security profiles. Please consult your system administrator.

According the instructions below, first check the service pack on your computer, and if necessary update it. If the issue is not resolved, proceed and edit the registry.

Instructions:

Step 1: Check the service pack

The issue may be resolved by updating the service pack, if the most recent service pack is not already installed. To check which service pack is installed on the computer, complete the following steps:

Windows XP: Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Under System:, the service pack is listed.

Windows 2000: Right-click My Computer and then click Properties. Check to verify the latest service pack and whether it is installed on your computer. If necessary, follow the instructions provided by Microsoft, or contact Microsoft for help, to install the service pack.

If the error message returns and you are unable to install or uninstall the printer driver, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Edit the Registry

Window maintains most of the information about your computer and its programs in a file called the registry. It is important to backup the registry before editing it. If mistakes are made when editing the registry, your computer may not function properly. Having a backup copy of a working registry will allow you to restore your computer to a working state if mistakes are made while editing the registry.

Backing up the Registry

Complete the steps in this section to backup the Windows registry.

Click Start and then click Run.

In the Open box, type regedit. Click OK.

In the Registry Editor, select My Computer.

In Windows 2000, click Registry and then Export Registry.

In Windows XP, with My Computer highlighted, click File and then Export.

Browse to a file location that will be easy to remember.

Under Export Range, select All.

Type in a filename. How to keep your PC safe

If it's too late and you already have problems, get a friend to download Malwarebytes and put it on a flash drive for you, then install and run it on your computer.

Tried to install VIPRE Anti-Virus,Anti-Spyware software on my HP Pavilion a6460t Desktop and I keep getting ERROR 1402 could not open key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run....

Your firewall or antivirus program is blocking the program from editing the registry if you want to use the program you need to disable your security program for the duration of the setup.

Cant install windows vista getting error message in installation

The only thing I can think of for an error of this kind would be faulty media. I would suggest getting ahold of another copy of the Windows Vista Install disc. Note that it matters not what Version the Install disc is, you have the Windows Key you need to use, it will install the correct version on its own.

I CANNOT INSTALL ADOBE READER 9.1 ERROR MESSAGE 1402 APPEARS

Do the following solutions first of all please remove all previous versions of Acrobat, and then reinstall.
1. Choose Start > Control Panel (Windows XP)
2. Double-click Add Or Remove Programs.
3. Select Adobe Acrobat [version] and click Remove.
4. When prompted, confirm that you want to remove Acrobat.
5. Repeat the above procedure for all installed versions of Acrobat.
6. Restart the computer, and then reinstall Acrobat.
Now, perform the steps below during Acrobat Reader installation. The Administrators group listed below is the default local administrative group for Windows XP.
  1. Write down the path to the key referred to in the error message and leave the installation running. For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf\PersistentHandler.
  2. Choose Start > Run, type regedit in the Open text field of the Run dialog box, and then click OK.
  3. Navigate to the parent of the key referenced in the error message. For example, for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf\PersistentHandler, open (double-click) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >SOFTWARE > Classes > .pdf.
Note: These steps may vary slightly depending on the path in the error message
  4. Right-click on the parent key and select Permissions (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf).
  5. Verify that the Administrators and SYSTEM is present and that Full Control is selected under the Allow column.
  6. In the Permissions dialog box, click Advanced.
    cid:1f55f5d78f3846839533f8a85e395973@joanne
  7. Select the Administrators group (1) and "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" (2). Note: Select the current administrator account if the Administrators group is unavailable.
    cid:3ce74f38956e4dfcae487444ce8f86c9@joanne
  8. Select both "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" and "Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions," (1) and then click the Owner tab (2).
    cid:be8ff9254ad94f29bec91706f67dc76b@joanne
  9. Click OK (3) in the "Advanced Security Settings" dialog box. Windows will now reset the permissions for each child object to correspond with its parent.
  10. Minimize the Registry Editor and click Retry.
    • If the error reoccurs with the same key proceed to Solution 4.
    • If the error occurs with another registry key repeat Steps 1-10 using the new registry key.
    • If the error does not occur finish the installation following the on screen instructions and exit the Registry Editor.
Please let us know how it goes.

SBAMSvc.ex program hogs cpu time

It's an anti-spyware program. I've heard of lots of problems with that particular one.

I would go into safe-mode and uninstall it myself.
Just tap on the F8 keys as your pc is booting up and when the menu appears, use the arrow keys to select safe mode and press enter twice. If you are prompted to select a user, select your username.

Once in safe-mode go to "Start" then "Control Panel" then click the "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstall it from there.

Hope this helps and good luck:)

Computer keeps crashing

I would need more information to get this right on the first try, but I do have a couple of suggestions. Is there a lot of dust in the case or on the fan in the back? I would try to blow all of that out. Also, if you open the case you should be able to see if the fan on the processor is spinning. It could have so much stuff on it that it can't turn. Clean that out if it is dirty. Last, you could have a problem with the power supply. I can't tell for sure because there isn't enough informat.
One last thing, are you getting anything about the rpc server before it shuts down? If you are you have a virus. Download a free 30 trial of Vipre from Sunbelt Software to clean it up.
