I have a whirlpool duet dryer and I can feel the heating element heat up but the drum won't turn any suggestions. Thanks

I had a similar problem with my dryer, if the heatin element is workin but the drum itself isn't turning it is probably a broken belt i the back, it is usually an easy fix and if you have a warranty on your dryer then you could call the maintance and they can fix it fir you covered under you warranty, if not you can usually find the belt at most hardware or appliance shops, and fix it yourself easily. It is located in the panel at the back of your dryer. Hope this helps you some

I have a Kenmore electric (front load) dryer, model number 84092500 that would spin but does not produce any heat. I tried cleaning/vacuumin the tubing that vents to the outside and resetting the circuit...

The first step of the fix has been done by cleaning the lint filter and the vent system. The next step is replacing the thermal cut-off and the high-limit thermostat both located on the blower housing. It is common that the dryer stops heating when the thermal cut-off blows open due to the failure of the high-limit thermostat to cycle off and regulate the heater temperature. The thermal cut-off cuts power to the heating element should the high-limit thermostat fails and the dryer temperature goes extremely high as a safety feature. My Whirlpool clothes dryer model GEW9200LW0 stopped drying completely. The drum turns but no heat. It began slowing down the heating process approx. 2 years ago. Any suggestions?

Electric Dryer Does Not Heat
  • If your Whirlpool electric dryer is having trouble heating, you should check all of the thermostats, the thermal cut-off, all fuses and the electric heating element for continuity and proper connection.

I have a Whirlpool dryer model #WDE5840SW0 and it is not heating. I replaced the heating element and it is still is not heating. Any suggestions??

Hi, before replacing a element, verify power was being delivered to it or just ohm it out. Sounds like a high temp limit or a defective thermostat.

Electric dryer doesn't heat.

Probably a bad heating element. There are a few different styles, you'll just need to lookup your model number on an appliance parts website, find the right part, and then do a quick search on replacement. There are probably ten or fifteen websites that have instructions to replace heating elements.

Here's one where you can buy the part, the element is part number 17.

How old is the dryer? The heating element is probably no good.
It's possible to fix it yourself. Make sure it's unplugged before you start. You might want to check a parts store, or online to see what the heating element would cost. when this goes bad, the dryer will still spin, and the heat stops instantly. It's a little tricky taking the panels off, but there's not too much to a dryer. An electric motor that powers a belt to make it spin, the heating element, metal sides, top and bottom. Good Luck! Thermostat, High limit and low limit thermostat or even a safety Temp limiter. All three are similar in cost and located on the back inside of the dryer and 1 by the airflow tube under the lint trap.
