Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

When I try to print something I get a message,"HPZipm12.exe(HPZipm12.exe)".I then have to click "X" on the dialog box two or three times to get rid of it. I then can print. What is the problem and what should I do about it? I have already uninstalled the printer driver and then reinstalled and it didn't help. When I did that I got a message during the re-installation process,"Unable to start the application-the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered".

Please see the previous post regarding the separate matter of the HPZipm12.exe driver. This post shall focus on the Java Virtual Machine. This matter has been a subject of some controversy and conflict for some time, as these functions were provided by MS until a successful suit resulted in MS becoming unable to deliver any java code within MS solutions. This occurred officially as of 12/31/07. Therefore, I believe there is still a great amount of confusion surrounding the java software, features, and functions, and the best way for each user to resolve any resulting issues.

This matter can become quite confusing and overwhelming due to the sheer volume of material that has accumulated since 2001 (the suit date) and through 12/31/07, when MS could no longer support their version of the java programming code. Summarizing as briefly as possible, MS delivered java functionality through msjavax86.exe, which they referred to as MS Virtual Machine. Though this particular page does not specifically address your printer, it explains how to tell if you have the MSVM installed, and graphically depicts IE settings that facilitate the features:
Further, at the bottom of the page, there is a definitive link to the specific java page for downloading java software should it be required. This link is:

If you were to search for it, you could find several locations from which you could download the MSVM, file msjavax86.exe. However, this is not recommended, as MS can not legally provide any support, nor can they provide any security updates, patches, fixes, etc., and there have been no further upgrades of that particular piece of software. If it is already and still currently present on your machine, though, you may continue to use it if it serves the purposes for which you need it. If you find that you have MSVM, and change the settings, but still do not see resolution, then you should download the java solution as indicated.

There have also been indications that installation of IE7 could create the need for a patch, presumably on older machines which still hae the MSVM available, and these primarily relate to scanning issues. If this is your situation, and you need further assistance with that area, please advise. However, you should also be aware that there are many updates/downloads available for this printer, including firmware, which could affect any function of your all-in-one. Please advise as to how the data I have provided for your use has impacted your equipment, as any remaining issues can be solved - and I will help you until they are!

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

When opening Outlook I receive the following message, this occurred after I tried to email a photo out of a photo program: "A data file did not close properly the last time it was used and is being...

1. In Outlook 2007, click the Tools menu and select Options.
2. In the Options dialog box, click the Mail Setup tab and then click the Data Files button.
3. In the Account settings window, you will see all of your personal Outlook data files listed. Here, you want to note the full path to each data file. On my system, my Outlook personal and archive folders are stored in the C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder.
4. Once you have this information, close the Account Settings dialog box and then close the Outlook Options window.

Now that you have the location of your Outlook data files, you need to check and repair them using the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool-SCANPST.exe. By default, you should see SCANPST.exe in the Microsoft Office installation folder's "Office 12" subfolder. On my system, SCANPST.exe is located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12. For additional information on SCANPST.exe, take a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, "How to use the Inbox Repair Tools to recover e-mail messages in Outlook 2002 and Outlook 2003."

To check and repair your Outlook data files, follow these steps:

1. First, close Outlook 2007.
2. Use Windows Explorer to browse to SCANPST.exe, then double-click it.
3. When the Outlook 2007 Inbox Repair Tool opens, click Browse and navigate to the Outlook data file location that you found earlier. Note that you will need to check each file listed. On my system, I start with the file archive.pst. To check that file, you would select it in the "Select File to Scan" dialog box and then click Open.
4. Now click Start to begin the repair process.

When I open computer a message displayed cannot find regsvr.exe

Hi there.
You have a virus on the PC!!

What the regsvr.exe virus does?
• This worm creates folders and a registry entry to enable its automatic execution at every system startup.
• This worm also creates a scheduled task to enable its automatic execution at a specified date and/or time.
• It also creates Autorun.inf file for its auto execution.
Solution to fix the problem:
1. If the task manager and registry editor is disabled then we need to enable them first. Read this post.
2. Delete the Autorun.inf file created by the virus. First go to cmd (start menu, run or search, type “attrib X:Autorun.inf –s –r –h” without quotes where X is your drive name which is having the problem. Now the file is visible and ready to delete. After deleting the file, close the explorer and open it again
3. Now type msconfig in the Run dialog and click on startup tab.
4. Look for regsvr and uncheck any options, click OK.
5. Now traverse to control panel -> scheduled tasks, and delete the At1 task that might be listed there.
6. Type regedit in the Run dialog to open the registry editor.
7. Click on Edit -> Find and search for regsvr.exe
8. Just delete all the occurrences of regsvr.exe virus (do not confuse it with regsvr32.exe which is not a virus).
9. Navigate to entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon and modify the entry Shell = “Explorer.exe regsvr.exe” to delete the regsvr.exe from it.
shell_regsvr.jpg10. Now to actually delete the virus from the system go to system32 folder and delete the regsvr.exe virus file from there (you will need to uncheck the option of “Hide Protected System Files and Folders” in Folder Options to view the virus file).
Reboot the system for changes to take place.
If this is too much for you to understand please post back for an alternative.

Good luck

When I click on "print" to print something I get a message "Unable to start driver for HPZipm12.exe(HPZipm12.exe). What should I do?

Please note that this is the first of two issues referred to in my previous response to your original posting. This addresses only the matter of the message received in regard to HPZipm12.exe. In order to solve the problem, I believe it is appropriate to gain a basic understanding of the issue that is creating the problem itself. This is as opposed to giving you a solution that simply directs you to go to this page, click here, and click there... Further, with an understanding of the primary problem, it becomes a little less difficult to dig through the mounds of material available on any given internet site that may not be as accurate as we may hope.

HP multi-function printers, such as your PSC2110, utilize a PML driver service. PML ("Printing Industry Markup Language") was a markup language designed for the printing industry (printers, publishers, paper distributors, and ink/consumable suppliers, for instance. This is similar to the XML language to be used primarily in the grahic industry (at the time of development).

The PML service basically handles bidirectional communication between the PC and the printer, therefore being required for such functions as scanning, card reader functions, certain copy tasks, usage of the HP Director software, and updating of printer item status in the related system tray tracking icons, etc. Unfortunately, certain versions of the driver have been associated with nearly constant problems, and specifically with specific software applications, such as Sage Accounting, or with "unable to start driver" errors at startup.

Based on my extensive research, there is one potential fix for this problem, with the second being to disable it. (Note that this assumes you are signed in and working as an administrator.) The first is to ensure that your firewall alows the task to communicate external to the PC. In other words, if the firewall does not allow the HP function to communicate through the firewall as an exception, it will be blocked, and will not function, thereby creating the result you see. Please review your firewall in detail, and HP recommends that all HP software be permitted to communicate as exceptions to the firewall.

The second manner of addressing this problem is primarily to disable the function at startup, changing the type of startup to manual. Per HP, most ("if not all") of the functions will continue to work as they should without the PML driver. Therefore, HP recommends that, should changing of the firewall/security software not achieve the desired result, that the driver be set to manual startup. This will have the effect of disabling it at startup, and will require that (should you attempt a function requiring its support) you manually start the service as necessary. (See HP reference:

There are a number of other references, should you desire same, but this was the most comprehensive and relevant to the problem at hand.
