Re: How do I open ports in the Virtual Server?

You need to forward the ports used by the application to the server running the application in the Virtual Server, which is present in the router's management screen, as follows. 1. Open your web browser, type in the router's IP address (standard: '') and press enter. 2. Click on Login, Advanced Setup, NAT, Virtual Server. 3. Enter the port details and enable it as follows: Private IP Private Port Type Public Port 192.168.2.x xxx TCP xxx 192.168.2.x xxx UDP xxx

Connecting wireless router to server

If routing and remote access is enabled on the server, it should handle the bridging automatically between the two nics...

Otherwise, simply turn off the DHCP in the router, have the server and all the clients connect to the LAN ports, and they will automatically get their address from the server. In this scenario, you don't need to worry about the WAN port on the router.

But you might want to think about using the WAN port on the router to provide an added layer of security rather than exposing your server directly to the internet. You can set up all the port forwarding you need on the router.

The manual is here:

You need a pdf reader (adobe) to read the content.

Good luck.

Hi, my Belkin N Wireless router works in some way fine with both Wired and Wireless connection, but there is a problem, it will only allow me to connect wired to my computer and not to my PlayStation 3......

You may need to change settings in your router to enable your online games to work. Some games need to use specific ports; these ports may be closed due to the router's firewall. Please refer to your game's documentation for the ports required.

Use the following answer to configure these ports in your router.

In order to configure this, you need to know:

- The IP address of the computer or device to have the port forwarded to.

- The port numbers to be used and whether these are TCP or UDP ports

(Note: We recommend you use a computer that has a wired connection to the router.)

Setup steps:

  1. Open a Web Browser on the computer. Type in
  2. In the address bar of the Web Browser type Click Login in the upper right hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click submit.

  1. Click on Virtual Servers under Firewall in the menu on the left

  1. Enter the following information
    • Click Enabled
    • Type a general description of the application i.e.. Remote Desktop
    • Type the port(s) specified by the program manufacture for both of the Inbound port fields
    • Select TCP, UDP, or BOTH for the Type.
    • Private IP address: Enter the IP address of the computer you want grant access too.
    • Type the port(s) specified by the program manufacture for both of the Private port fields.

  1. Click the Apply Changes button

If you tried my solution, then you would have opened all ports, so ports would not be your cause of lag at the moment. The thing is, you do not need to open any ports at all to connect to a game server, you only need to open ports when you BECOME a game server. The lagging will be down to your Internet connection, try to find a gameserver with a ping below 100. Alternatively, look for programs that consume your Internet connection like programs that are used to download MP3s and Applications as these will cause your game to lag heavily. Anyone else on the network may also be downloading or uploading, which will have an effect on your game, too. However it is most definitly not a problem with your ports.

How To Make a DMZ

A router normally stops incoming Internet traffic from getting on your network, unless the traffic is in response to one of your computers or when using port forwarding. But instead of discarding the incoming traffic or using port forwarding, you can send incoming traffic to one computer on your network by establishing a "Default DMZ Server". (DMZ = humorous reference to "Demilitarized Zone".) This avoids you having to figure out what ports an Internet application wants ? by throwing all ports open for that computer. For regular network operation, NETGEAR recommends you do not use a DMZ. A computer with DMZ loses firewall protection, and is exposed to exploits from the Internet. If compromised, your own computer can attack the rest your network. Instead of DMZ, use port forwarding, as described in How is Port Forwarding Configured? However, the DMZ server feature is helpful: * When you have a problem connecting to an Internet service. Setting up a DMZ will determine whether a closed port is responsible for the problem. * With some online games and videoconferencing applications that are incompatible with NAT. Follow the procedure under your router model to create a DMZ To Create a DMZ for RP614, MR814, FVS318, FVM318, WGR614 1. Open a Web browser, and type the router's IP address (The router's default IP address is Click Go. 2. Enter the username and password for the router (Default username is admin and password is password). 3. From the browser Main Menu select Advanced > Security. Some routers, such as the MR814, use the WAN Setup Options, page, instead. 4. Enter the server's IP address. 5. Click Apply. To Create a DMZ for FR114P, FR114W, FM114P, FR328S, FVL328 1. From the browser Main Menu select Advanced > Security. 4. Click Rules. 5. Check the box for Default DMZ Server, and enter the server's IP address the corresponding box for the IP Address. 6.
