Ignitor lights burner, and the ignitor goes off for a split second, then starts again.  Only happens with right rear burner.  Switched "caps" around from working burners with no change.  Cleaned up a little corrosion on burner, no change. Anyone know how to fix this?

Hey,

These things are so damn temperamental. You gotta get it really clean and dry. Take off the top, get a toothbrush, clean it out. Then use the toothbrush with some rubbing alcohol and clean the spark thingy. That will usually do it. Good luck.

Hi,

Andy's answer to this problem isn't very clear. Was anyone able to correct their problem, as I have the same one. The electronic ignitor stays on after the flame is lit.

Thanks

The simmer flame turns the ignitor off. On my range, the tube that supplies gas to the simmer flame was plugged with rubber-cement-like stuff. Cleaned it out with goof-off and a pastic-covered wire, and it works perfectly now.

My stove lights very slow with a low flame. Should the igniter stay on after it lights oven

Yes the ignitor stays on even after the burner is lit. The ignitor is wired in series with the oven valve. It sounds like the oven valve isn't opening all the way. A new ignitor should solve this problem. The old igniter builds up resistance and doesn't let the correct voltage through to the oven valve for it to open properly.

Oven does not "burn" steadily when set below 300 degrees.

Sounds like you have a bad oven ignitor and oven burner tube. install a Amperage meter on one of the oven ignitor wire, It should draw above 3 AMPS, if it is below then you have a bad oven ignitor, or just change the oven ignitor to see if it makes any difference. Have fun.

The oven of GE Profile range simply stopped igniting

If it is a ge it would have a glow bar ignitor, either a flat rectangle shaped or a round ignitor. That is want the problem is 95% of the time. It is pretty easy to do. The floor of the stove will come right out and it probably has two screws in the back corners you can see. Remove them and the floor will lift out and you can see the burner and the ignitor.

The ignition keeps on sparking after the burner is lit.

How old oof a unit is it? The burners switches when on will operate ignitors for all burners no matter which switch is "turned on". Usually when units get older these switches on the most "often used" burners will stick and stay "connected" then all ignitors will continue to spark this is also true if switches accidentally get wet with spillage or water till they dry out. No danger though because jsut because ignitor is sparking doesnt mean gas is being released, gas is only released when valves are turned on

Gas oven wont stay on

If this is electronic ignition, then chances are the burner or ignitor nub has residue on them, preventing the flame detection system from keeping the gas on.

Use warm soapy water and a plastic scrub brush to thoroughly clean the burner cap, burner base, and ignitor nub.

Ignitor works but stays lit!

That is the way it works. As long as the burner is on the ignitor will also be on. Want to see why?

Stove igniters stay on

Hello edmontonDad,
Welcome

You said, Stove igniters stay on.

The igniter goes off only when the cap is removed.

This is happening with two burners at the same time.

This sounds like a valve control problem!
Do not leave this go.
This can be dangerous!

SORRY that it has to be hands on service!

Jgr8855bds range - oven problem

that's too long, check to see if you have flame in the broiler section, i'm thinking not. see if your ignitor is just staying on without igniting burner, ignitors will produce that much heat in that amount of time. if no flame at butner, replace ignitor.
