Westell 6100 modem not working for internet access

Unhooked modem to take computer in for repair. Now, in rehooking it up, can't get internet access. Also have wi fi on this connection for my laptop- can't figure out if I hooked it them up wrong. Can't find manual for either!!

Unhooking the modem didn't jaz things up it was when the computer was repaired. You have to run the installation disk again or just buy a mac.

It probably isn't connect to the outside world. It doesn't know what IP to use on the outside. Call your ISP and see what your IP or if you should just keep in on dynamic and have it autopick up a IP.

All the lights on my Westell Model 6100 are green except the internet light is red. What does that mean? Thank you!


The reason why your internet light is red for the westell model 6100 is because it is not yet configure. You need to access the gui of this modem. Enter the username and password for your internet connection. You will get the username and password from your ISP. You can contact your ISP provider so they can walk you through for the steps on how to configure your new router.

Lost my internet service


I can't really tell by the picture of the modem of what version you have an f series or g, but I can tell you this for personal experience that the westell 6100 F series is junk. I went with westell 6100 G and my works pefectly. Verizon admitts at www.dslreports.com they have trouble with the 6100 F modem. What verizon said the new firmware was to blame on the 6100 F.
I would like to add that my friend had the exact some problem, he got he G series, and it cure his.

I have a westell 6100 modem also- The light your are talking about always blinks- it blinks as long as the internet is working (it is sending and transmitting data)

there might be a problem with the Linksys router, the Westell 6100 should be 1st set to bridge mode in order for your router to be connected to it. or there could also be a proble on the Verizon server.

Setup Wireless Router to Westell 6100 modem


Your Wireless router should have come with a CD. Insert the CD into your computer and follow it step by step. If it did not come with it here is a basic wiring setup.
From wall jack to Westell modem, From modem to uplink port on Max G router.
Reboot Westell modem. T
Everything should auto-configure unless you need a username and password for your DLS. If so you will need to program this into your router.
