I'm not sure what "it" specifically refers to when you say "it went to a USB port", so this part of your question is not clear.
You also don't say which operating system you are using, so I can only talk in general terms.
Your printer has a small maemory cache that can store printing information and instructions several pages ahead of what it is printing in real time.
When an error occurs and the user keeps firing off more and more instructions to resolve the error, the cache can become full and refuse to accept any more instructions.
Start > Printers > double click on the default printer's icon > highlight and cancel all pending documents > close > power down the printer > disconnect the printer cable > restart the PC > power up the printer > reconnect the printer cable > test print.
This process should clear the printer's memory cache and you should be fine from there.
