Question about Insignia Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Insignia® - 75W DVD/CD/HD Radio Compact Shelf System with USB Port Model: NS-HD2114 Using the internal antenna, AM radio detects no stations, and when directly tuned to a a strong local signal, no audio. All other functions on the unit work fine including the FM radio.

The AM radio works fine after connecting an external antenna.

The documentation states that the unit is also equipped with an internal AM antenna and that when using it, you should move the unit about to improve reception. Standard low-budget attribute.

If this unit is equipped with an internal AM antenna, it is useless.

In spite of this very minor flaw, the NS-HD2114 delivers good quality function for a very reasonable price.

    Issue closed.

Connecting an external AM antenna solved the problem. The internal antenna (if there is one) is useless.

I CAN ONLY RECEIVE 2 OR 3 RADIO CHANNELS ON MY INSIGNIA RECEIVER

Radio tuners receiving AM and FM channels/broadcast MUST have some sort of antenna connection. For local channels a paper clip will work, but for more distant channels, use either a better inside antenna or purchase a outside antenna as needed.

I just bought the RCA CD/DVD home theater system RTD206. I cant figure out how to change the radio channels. Also cant figure out how to change the cd disk tracks. Does this system have a remote. Or do...

The system does have a remote (at least it should come with one if purchased new), and you need it to control pretty much everything. Here's what the manual says about the radio tuner (you can find the whole manual here) :

Manual Tuning
1. Connect the FM aerial and the AM loop antenna at the back of the unit. Rotate the AM loop for
better reception.
2. Press TUNER to enter TUNER mode and toggle between FM and AM.
3. When the FM station broadcasts Stereo sound, ST is displayed.
4. Tune a station by pressing repeatedly the TUNER+/- buttons until the desired station is found.
Alternatively, you can press and hold the same buttons down for about one second to activate
the automatic search function. In this mode the player will automatically tune frequencies until
it finds a station.
5. Repeat step 4 to tune to another radio station.

Storing radio stations
The player can store up to 30 radio stations in its memory. You can enter every single radio station
yourself or the player can store all available radio stations automatically in ascending order.
Automatic preset programming
1. Press TUNER to enter the Tuner mode.
2. Press and hold TUNER down for 3 seconds to start automatic preset programming.
Note: A weak signal can affect the "Automatic preset programming" function's efficiency. Adjust the aerial for better
reception and a more efficient search.
3. Radio frequencies will be browsed and radio stations stored automaitcally. When all the available
radio stations are stored or all 30 memory locations are full, the auto preset programming
function will stop.

Manual preset
1. Tune to a radio station (see "Manual tuning" for details).
2. Press MEMORY once to enter flashing Preset Loaction number.
3. While the Preset Location number is still flashing, input your desired preset number (1-30) using
the numeric buttons or press the CH+/- buttons, then press MEMORY to store it.

Retrieving preset stations
1. Press TUNER to enter the Tuner mode.
2. Press CH+/- to search up or down for the preset stations or directly press the numeric buttons.

As you see, you really need that remote. The same is true for disc play. While there are front panel buttons for play/stop, disc skip, and drawer open/close, you don't have any other control without the remote. Without the remote control you'll find this system won't do too much, unfortunately. If you bought this new, check the packing material before you throw it away to make sure the remote's not still somewhere in the box. They often come tucked into slots on the foam inserts.

Also, when you hook the unit to a TV, it's just using the TV as a video display device. The TV has nothing to do with any of the system's other functions.

I hope you have luck locating the remote! Thanks for using Fixya.

How do you hook up an mp3 player to insignia ns-r2000

You will need an Dual RCA to 3.5mm stereo cable. One similar to this: http://www.dcables.net/Dual-RCA-to-3_5-mm-Stereo-Cable-5-Feet.aspx
It would probably be easier to pick one up at your local Wal-Mart or Radio Shack.
Just connect the RCA connectors to one of the audio line inputs and the 3.5mm to your mp3 player. Set your insignia to receive the source you just connected.
Hope this helps

Your system was an old carousel type CD changer. They do not make them anymore. The whole world is moving towards compact storage devices ( Hard disk / Flash drives ) and steering away from media like CD's , DVD's etc. Thanks to the internet, almost everything is available at your fingertips.
Today your system would be worth less than half of what you paid. In fact for half the amount you could pick up something similar with only one CD tray, but with a USB port for playing MP3 / Video files.
Check out this Sony 5 cd player for $450/-

Radio stations have shushing sound

Cheap table top radio is mono. Your Denon is not getting a good signal so you are hearing noise. You need a better antenna (roof type) or the antenna needs to be moved and aimed in another direction. Try moving it while the station is tuned. You can also switch the Denon to mono and it will reduce the noise at the loss of fidelity.
