My internet Connects perfectly to the computer to the modem.. but when I put my router inbetween the two, it stops working and i've tried everything including restore factory settings, and it still...

Well in order to access internet via your router, it needs to be configured as you said its being restored to factory defaults. Also always mention your ISP (Internet service provider), Router model no and Computer type with running Operating system for exact steps to fix such problems
Alright, first of all we need to establish physical connection with the Modem -> Router->Computer, then we will setup router
  1. Connect Ethernet cable from Modem to the WAN port of the router.
  2. Connect another Ethernet cable from Router LAN port to computer LAN port.
  3. Power cycle all the devices (Turn on Modem first, then Router and at last computer).
  4. Usually in case of Cable ISP, router would automatically get connection from Modem and Internet should start working.
  5. Else you can open Router admin page to configure
  6. You need to find the IP address of your router (usually Default IP of Netgear routers is I can't tell what is the IP for your router as you didn't mentioned Model no.
  7. Open Command prompt (Start-Run-CMD) and type IPCONFIG.
  8. Default gateway address is the IP address of your router. (You can also find router's default IP on the its panel below.)
  9. Now next step is to access router interface.
  10. Open Browser and type (It is just an example, you need to use the IP address of your router, we are assuming its Press Enter
  11. Type "admin" in usename and "password" in password box to login (both are in lower case without quotes)
  12. In the left side you can find Setup Wizard, Click on Yes and then Next
  13. Wait for the process to complete and then hit "Apply".

Ask me any questions if you need any help. Hope this helps.

I have a wireless access point connected to a router. I am not able to reach settings page of the access point. Need help. IP given on the manual is but it doesnt seem to work

the easiest way to find the IP address of your access point is to utilize the TRACRT function in command prompt.

Open a command prompt window, (XP-run>cmd vista/windows7-find>cmd

in the command prompt window, type tracert (random address ex.

so in the case of, the command would be "tracert" (no quotes)

the computer will then send a packet to, but list the paths to it, you should only be really interested in the first couple addresses.

The first IP address will be your computers, if your computer goes through a switch before the router, the second address will be that of the switch, the third will then be the routers IP address

If your computer goes directly into the router, the second anddress on the list will be the router's IP address.

type the given address into your favorite browser and the router config page should be displayed.

It does not make much sense. But it seems the WAP610N has a limit on concurrent connections. We just started to use this device in a small office network. There are about 15 laptops on wireless...

Two possibilities:

1. the router is configured to hand-out IP-addresses in a limited range, e.g., to, namely 11 different IP-addresses. When the 12th computer asks for an IP-address, there is none available. Remedy: configure the router to use a larger range of IP-addresses.

2. when an IP-address is handed-out, attached is a 'TTL' ("time to live") value, indicating how long the IP-address remains valid, e.g., 10 minutes or 100 minutes or 1 day or 1 week. If the TTL is too large, then each computer "hogs" the IP-address (even after being shut-off in mid-afternoon).
Remedy: configure the router to use a shorter TTL. Don't worry: when a TTL value drops to 50% of its original value, on a specific computer, the computer will "renew" the lease.

Im trying to set this up as an access point. but it will not fine a ip from the router

Most router wont act as a DHCP client (Get an IP address) on their own.

You need to go into the Belkin setup and set it to an IP address in the range of your other router.

For example:
If your PC is getting (connected to the same network) an IP address of IP and a Default Gateway address of you can set the Belkin with any adderss between & Changing the last octet (set of numbers after the 3rd period) to the desired address.

The device seems to not work... Power LED blinking and turn off ...2.4 LED green lamp turn on as the power turn off... and LINK greem lamp on... With slave device, do not be seen any signal from the PoE......

You will need to reset the router and then read below

To open the set up page of the router of the router , one of your computer should be able to go online through the router.
It could be a wired computer or wireless computer.
If it is a wireless computer then make sure that the computer is connected to your own wireless network.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router using a wireless computer.
OK ! Now you have a computer online through the router and you want to open the set up page of the router.

First step is check the IP address of the computer.
Check the IP address and the Default gateway on the computer.

For Windows XP

START ==> RUN ==> type in cmd in the RUN box==> click OK or Hit ENTER . You will see a black window that is a command prompt . In the black window type in " ipconfig " ==> and Hit ENTER on your key board .

For Windows Vista and Windows 7

click on START ==> type in cmd in the start search box ==> enter ==> you will see the black window. Type in " ipconfig "you will see a lot of information. Try to find out the local area connection IPv4 address .

Note down the Default gateway number.

Click APPLE icon in the right top corner of the computer. Go to System Preferences ==> go to Network ==> you will find the option Built in Ethernet or Airport whichever is connected. If you go to that you will find the Ip address and router Address.

The default gateway is the IP address of your router.

This IP address of the router will be used to open the set up page of the router

Now you got the IP address of the router.Open the Internet Browser ( Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari )

In the Address bar of the browser Type the IP address of the router.

Do not type http:// or www just type in the IP address only.

It will ask you for the user name and the password of the router.

This is the User name and the password of the router and NOT the wireless password. On a wireless router, there are 2 passwords. One is to access the router and the other one is for the wireless network.

For most of the routers the default password will be " admin " . for some routers the default password is " password ". For Linksys router the default password is admin and no user name.

I can't log in to configure my router. I tried loging in using but its not working an I don't know why. Help please

You may need to double check if the router is giving the correct IP address. You can this by doing the following:

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Got to Network Connections
3. Right click on the the connection that you are using to connect to the router, wired or wireless. Then go to Status.
4. Go to the Support tab. Check the IP address and the Default Gateway, it's the Default Gateway that will tell what is the correct router IP address.

After you verify the correct IP address, you test if your computer is still communicating with the router. To do this, do the following:

1. Click Start go to Run and type "cmd" and then hit return.
2. In the command prompt, type this command "ping" or ping whatever IP address you will see in the support tab for Default Gateway.

You should get four replies if your computer is communicating with the router. If you not make sure that you disable the firewall/s in your computer. You can also use a different computer.

I bought a dlink n router 655 yesterday to replace my old belkin router. When i connect the modem to the n router and try to setup with the cd, it wont detect the internet. The modem i'm using is westell...

I Think you ISP must be DSL.
Your internet is working with the old router when it is in bridge mode.
Check the IP address of your computer when it is connected directly to the modem and NOT in the bridge mode. Suppose the IP address is 192.168.X.Y. After that connect your computer to the ethernet port of the router. DO NOT connect the modem to the router. check the IP address of the computer again. Suppose the IP address of the computer is 192.168.A.B. Now make sure that both the IP addresses are not in the same range that means X is NOT equal to A. If they are same, then open the set up interface of your router and change the Local IP address of the router. that will help.

First option is to forward ports where your friends can connect to. The second option is to put your computer in DMZ. These options can be found on the router settings.

ADSL ISP provides same address for IP and Gateway

Can you manually change the WAN IP on the router?  If so, give it an IP like and set the gateway address to  If it asks for a subnet mask, give it
If she has a Linksys router, you may need to change the operating "MODE" on it.  A lot of Linksys routers have 2 modes of operation---Router mode and Gateway mode.  For her configuration, make sure the Linksys is in Gateway mode.  This will fix the NAT problem.

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)
