There is a simple solution to ur problem.
When starting laptop go into bios setup and there find the option "hard disk sata=enable or disable".
Disable it and run setup it will definitely detect the hard disk.

The problem is your laptop uses a sata hard drive and xp does not have sata driver inbuilt so cannot cannot detect the sata drive. see here for more info http://www.trickspedia.com/tips/how-to-install-windows-xp-on-a-sata-hdd-laptop-without-floppy-drive/

I haven't heard of not being able to delete a partition before. You could go to the manufacturer of the hard drives website and find the software to do a low level format or you could download a linux distribution and use the installer to remove the ESIA partition.
I would need to know the model of hard drive and laptop if you need any further assistance.
