Question about Gateway SL9550-30165318 Notebook

1 Answer

Solo 9559 can not pass the initial screen

When I power up my Solo 9550 laptop, I get the Gateway Screen with the Press F2 for Set Up. I do this and everything seems to be identified correctly (I have also unplugged all peripherals in case one of them is causing problems and same thing applies). However, after it identifies componants and memory checks out ok, it says Entering Set Up and just sits there. Any ideas on what might be wrong? I have tried Reset button numerous times and have installed a new CMOS battery (just hoping) but to no avail

I am using XPP. However - getting into Windows is not my first concern. I could always access the BIOS before I ever installed any operating system. Was wondering if the problem may be the BIOS chip itself?

Oh, I was SO hopeful! I had tried this but not that long. Sorry - but same result. Thank you so much for the suggestions though.

    Maybe more details would help?

When powering up, get Gateway screen with Press F2 for setup.

    Do that and identifies:
    PhoenixBios 4.0 Release 6.0
    (then copyright etc.)

    Bios version 29.05.04
    Gateway Solo 9550
System ID - 000000000 (is this normal?)

    Then identifies
    CPU = Intel(R) Mobile Pentium(R) III Processor-M 1066 MHz
    Memory (all passed)
    System BIOS shadowed
    Video BIOS shadowed
UMB upper limit segment address: E439 (don't know what this is)
    Fixed Disk (correct)
    ATAPI CD/DVD (correct)
    Mouse initialized

    Entering Setup . . .

    Then just SITS there!

Oops - not familiar on how to leave a comment AND a rating....

The screen did not go blank. After listing statistics, it said "entering Set Up ..." and just sat there - no cursor.

However - after leaving the computer turned off but plugged in (Had to eat) I tried again - hit F2 and the Bios screen came up. Changed date and time but left everything else alone. F10 to exit saving changes. It went back to the Gateway Screen. F2 again worked and time/date were correct - however it just goes back to "Press F2 to Set up". This time tried Disable on Quick Boot and Quiet Boot so I could maybe see more of what was going on. It ran through tests and LO and BEHOLD! Windows started! Thank you for your help - and HOPEFULLY I won't be back!

Hi ya doing, . I have a problem: The laptop will not get past the POST.
I stops at "mouse initialized" with the "ESC" prompt at the bottom. So...the laptop doesn't freeze, because I can leave it sitting for hours, come back, and it will do the "Entering setup..." but THAT IS IT. Any help would be fine! Thanks in advance!

It may be the bios.... remove the bios battery for at least ten minutes... make sure the main battery is removed
so there is NO power to the laptop for about ten minutes
.... after you reinstall the bios battery and put the main battery back in and plug in the external power.... boot it up again.

I have a Gateway solo 9550 laptop. When I turn it on it says ERROR Invalid system configuration data- run configuration utility. What exactly is wrong? Windows boots up when I press f1. How do I stop this...

You usually gets this message when you leave the system unplugged for a long period of time. Whe the internal battery drained out the system loses the configuration data. Normally the internal battery will get recharged when you plug the power back. Just have to go into the BIOS and set the date back to the current date. In some case the internal battery needs to be replaced if no longer holds a charge.

I need the size or model number for a replacement charger for the gateway solo 9550.

Compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery.

Gateway Solo 9550 will not power on at all.

first you would try the least expensive
make sure your ac adpater works
the plug could be bad on the end
next is the pin inside the dc jack where you plug it in, if the pin moves just a little , you may need a new dc jack sold on ebay cheap
make sure the battery is out when testing

Gateway Solo 9550

If you can see a faint image of the desktop or the machine works with an external monitor, the either the screen inverter or the screen backlight has gone out. Start by checking the screen connections. The connection to the screen, screen to inverter and screen to motherboard. Connections can sometimes work loose. A loose connection generally causes the screen to go out entirely, rare but occasionally it can cause just the backlight to go. If the connections are good, then you will need to take it in to have the screen and inverter tested to find out which it is. If it turns out to be the backlight, you will have to purchase a new screen, screen are considered sealed units and just the backlight can't be changed out.
