mine does the same thing, but it was kinda my fault. the unit worked great until i hooked up this home theater tower speaker to it. it played for about 20 seconds and shut down and said "protect". then i tried turning it back on and turning the vol down as it was booting up. it lasted about 5 sec that time before shuting down. then i hooked up the stock speaker back up and every time after that, as its booting up (aprox 3 sec after hitting the power button) it shuts down and says "protect". also does it without any of the speakers hooked up at all.... i took it to an audio repair place, they said it was in the outboard circuit and it would cost about $300 to fix =parts + labor..

Me JVC MX-GC 5 turns itself off after 2-3 seconds i turn it on. A "Protect" message is displayed and it automatically turns itself off. Could that be a blown fuse? What kind of protection device does it have anyway? How do i fix this?

Same thing, it seems like something that would be easily fixed if it someone walked me through it. Pretty annoying, it happend after we connected more speakers up to the system. Now it wont stay on at all, even when the speakers are unplugged.

I'm not really familiar with your specific model, so I don't know what the output stage looks like. I'd guess that this unit has a large black 'amp-pac" for the amplifier section. This should be attached to a heat sink in the rear of the unit. Look to see what the markings are on that part. I expect to see STKxxx. Can you post that here?

Thanks,
Dan

JVC MX-GT88 sound system showing protected them shut off why

Chances are that something is blown in the power output stages and units shuts down to protect against further damage.

Repair or replace, which ever is cheaper!

Front faceplate/grille lights go on and off on their own..unit works perfectly otherwise JVC MX-GC5

Sounds like the unit is in 'demo' mode. Should be a button on the remote to turn this off.

JVC TH-V70 Shuts Down

Hello
Even after disconnecting the speakers, the systems shut down, means that there is something short inside the set. Normally, the output amplifier section circuits will have the short. The set need service, and may have to replace the audio output IC of audio secion. Contact the nearest JVC authorised service center at your town. OK.

My stereo won't work. Whenever I try to turn it on, it always turns off saying "protect." How can I fix this?

The protect has come on because it senses an output load problem, Turn the unit off, unhook the speakers and wires from the stereo, now turn the unit on and turn the volume down as far as it will go, this should reset the processor ic, if the word protect stays off you have a short in the wiring or bad speaker. If the protect comes back on with everything unhooked the problem is in the audio output ic pack in the stereo and will require a technician to remedy.

My JVC mx-gc5 stereo says protect and then shuts off

If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage (like squashed or rodent damage).

You got to open this puppy up and replace the 2 bad IC boards.  Known problem with this brand stereo.  Defect in the IC boards causes your fuses to blow and they will keep blowing every time you try to put new ones in.  Cost for parts will be about $200.

Stereo goes into protect mode

Protect is a safety feature so that you do not blow your speakers. However with it hooked up with the computer you may have surpassed the max output. If it still does this with out going through the computer, it has been damaged.

My compact component system mx-gc5 keeps turning it self off after u turn it on. it stays on for like 10 sec

This is probably a fault on the power supply sometimes caused by a diode. If you are capable investigate but if not PLEASE dont try anything to put your life in danger as the voltages present in the stereo can easily kill or injure. Good luck.

Yep, as I suspected, the STK412-430 needs to be replaced. That is the most common failure part. Try replacing that and your problem should be resolved.
