Is it the recovery cd for that machine. also remove the disk and inspect it for scratches and smudges... fingerprint smudges make it hard for the cd-rom to read.

Open Sart Menu, Computer, Is there a D (Recovery) drive? Most likely, if you have a D drive that would be the Recovery Partition. I can't say for sure. If you open the Recovery/Restore software use this procedure: http://www.pctechbytes.com/acer/acer-aspire-system-recovery-partition/ Read Carefully.

Recovery mode is not working

It almost never works, especially if it is trying to recover from cd's that you made.

Your best bet is to reinstall windows from an operating system disk.

Straighten a paper clip and push it inside the small hole just above the open/close button while you press the button. You'll need to apply some force. This is usually caused when the gear inside the cd/dvd rom is not working properly or damaged. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

My internet wont work anymore because i downloaded an update ( Windows home premium) on my acer x1200 I want to wipe / recover my computer to its original facttory settings but ive tried everything. I dont...

Click: Start
Click: All Programs
Click: Accessories
Click: System Tools
Click: System Restore

Pick a "restore-point" that was taken _before_ the update was applied,
and restore your system to that previous date/time.

OR ....

Look under "All Programs" for a utility that will help you burn CD/DVD(s) to create a "Recovery Disk" set. Burn more CD/DVD(s) with all your "data" files (or copy all your data-files to an external hard-drive). Then, boot from the "Recovery Disk", to begin the process of restoring the "factory" settings.
