No, because if there are no Ethernet connections on your DSL modem, there is no way you will be able to connect into a Router that uses Ethernet.

How do u get the internet on ds lite

I use a vendor recommended and supplied modem. It connects to the DSL line, power, and has a RJ45 and USB connector to connect to the computer or laptop. You can use USB or RJ45 ethernet connectors{looks like telephone connector on steroids} depending on the features of your modem. My modem is also a DHCP server and a firewall. I added a wirelss access point to have wifi throughout the house. It is connected directly to the modem.

WHERE TO PUT THE WIRES ONE IS A DATA CABLE TH OTHER IS A ETHERNET CABLE?

I dont understand the question. Usually connections are very self explanatory because sizes of plugins are unique.
An ethernet cable has an rj45 connector and can only plugin to an rj45 connector.
Usb have 4 or 5 type connectors but they are unique to them also.
Personally I never use the USB connector cable though sometimes you may have to if the modem or router doesnt seem to work with the ethernet cable.
Lay people that have no idea how all this modem router stuff works should probably follow the directions for setup using the USB cable.

Hi i have a netgear gateway router rt314 and i wanted to connect it but i dont know how can u plz help me

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
Then you need to connect the computer to the router ad the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

No network access to Internet due to modem password change by ATT

So you are saying you cannot login to the router itself due to a changed password. The default login is admin and password (or 1234).

If none of these work then you will have to reset the router back to the factory defaults. There is a reset button on the back of the router. Find a paper clip and press the button for approx 10 seconds or until the test light on the front starts blinking. If all goes well the default login should now work. Remember, anything set before as far as static IP's, Ports, Security will be cleared out.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa

Recently had a Belkin Wireless system install at home that keeps dropping the line in my room so want to use ASDL cable to connect to my computer what is the best modem card to get to do this

Your ISP should provide you with an external modem that would be connected to your phone line, then you would connect the modem to one of the wired connections on the back of the router, or directly to the back of your computer.

However, if you insist on an internal modem, I would suggest either a U.S. Robotics or Encore brand.

Speedstream 5200 modem

Open the following link --

speedstream 5200

Download the manual from the link and review page 7 for ethernet connection.

Notice particularly the back of the device. There are four connection points to plug things in the one on the left with DSL is where cable with the phone connectors connects the phone jack to the speedstream 5200. On the right the round connector with the pin is where the power goes. Next to the power connector to the left is a USB connector. In between usb connector and the DSL port is an ethernet connector. One way to avoid the need for the USB software os to use the ethernet connector bu connecting an ethenet cable (wider connector that fits snugly in both ports one on the Speadstream 5200 and the other probably present on your computer.

USB driver including VISTA (if you prefer)

Putting a FR314, RT311, RT/314, or RP114 Router in Stealth Mode When Port Scanned

As a security check, you can have an outside service do a port scan on your IP address to see which ports your router is leaving open. Some ports may appear in the scan, but be shown as "closed". That means that the router is acknowledging the request for these ports, but refusing the connection. Some users prefer to have no response at all from the router, so that there appears to be no device at the IP address. This is called "stealth mode". The solution is to forward the ports in question to a non-existant computer on your LAN. Choose a local IP address that you will not use for any device in your network, such as 192.168.0.199. Then go to the port forwarding menu of your router and forward those ports to that address. Since there is no device at that address, there will be no response. A popular site for having your ports scanned is the Gibson Research site at http://www.grc.com . Select the ShieldsUP test. Stealth mode is not available on other NETGEAR routers.
