First, try the capicator, theres a reason why the capicator failed, could this be caused by a bad motor? (---)!

Rheem classic 80 fan motor on furnace hums will not turn on

Have you checked the capacitor? Try spinning the blower wheel by hand, if this gets the motor going you have a bad capacitor. If not, the motor will need to be replaced.

Blower won't run

usually a "humming motor" indicates either a bad capacitor or a defective motor. With the power off try to spin the blower wheel...it should spin freely. If it is tight or wont spin and there are no obstructions stopping it (like an air filter sucked into blower or other debris) then the motor most likely is seized. If the blower wheel spins free then you may have a bad capacitor. Keep in mind, just because the blower spins easy doesn't mean the motor is good. I have had motors that are defective that dont seize up but most of the time the blower wheel will not spin free if the motor fails.

Outside unit comes on. inside unit stays humming

You could have a bad motor or motor capacitor. The capacitor is the can with two or three wires coming from it. Shut off the power to the unit and remove the blower panel. Check to see if the motor turns free and is not noisy. Next see if the motor is hot after it has been humming; if it is it may just a new capacitor and they are cheap and can be picked up at ac supply house. I'm going off the info you provided. humming can sometimes just be the transformer and you could have a blower relay issue. I have provided the most common issue that I find with this description.

I have an old Intertherm gas-fired furnace, Model MGH-055AB which ceased operating last night. It was quite warm when I arrived home, and when I set the heat up a little, began to hum, but the fan would...

Tom P's answer is generally correct: The motor start capacitor is usually not the problem. However, in some cases, particularly on older furnaces, where there were capacitors of certain make and production run will prematurely fail. This happened in March on a mobile home HVAC unit where both the blower fan and condenser fan motor capacitors failed open circuit. Both caps were of the same Mfg, and production lot.
Here is a suggestion (for you or an electrically inclined friend): Locate a substitute motor capacitor having similar Mfd (or MF) and Voltage ratings. Remove power from the unit. Reach into the blower squirrel cage and spin it to verify that the shaft is not frozen. Pull the wires from the existing capacitor noting color and location. Connect the wires to the substitute capacitor and secure it place. Apply power and turn on the blower. A no start? Motor replacement time.

The outside unit has power going to it but isn't

maybe it has tripped off on high pressure, as you have have said the fan is not turning so will cause high pressure. now assuming the problem is the fan is not running than check the condition of the condensator /capacitor for the fan motor. if the motors winding is still good replace the capacitor and try it ON.

My hot water tank won't start, i can hear humming sound from the blower, but blower doesn't run, ant it does no heat.

If the blower will not run, then the unit will not fire up due to a safety hazard. If it is a capacitor start motor, then you may have to replace the capacitor, otherwise you will have to install a new blower motor. Hope this helps

You can hear furnace running but the blower never comes on.

do you mean the inside blower or the outside unit blower ... actually the problem might be a similar part in either case ... the blower motor has a capacitor mounted on it or near it ... it will be marked something like 160 uf at 200vac or similar . it will have wires attached or plugged into it .. the capacitor is what gives the blower motor a signal to tell it which way to start turning ... once the blower is running then the capacitor is no longer needed ... its only used to get the motor started ... if its bad then the motor will hum but wont turn .. if you manually spin the fan then the motor will take off in the direction you spun it (dont get hit ) .. a new capacitor is not expensive .. you need the numbers off the old "starting" capacitor or just take it with you to the parts place to match it up .. you may be able to order it from Ruud ... a HVAC repair person would likely be able to bring one with him for repair if you give him the numbers off the part or the model number of the furnace .. make sure the blower turns freely by hand (with power off) .. if not it may need bearings lubed .. ..
