It BETTER be capable!

Blank disk in optical drive right-click on the file you want to copy. Click on Copy in the fly-out list.

No burning software?
I suggest you use Infra Recorder then. It works great, and is FREE,

(Click on the Infra Recorder user interface shown at the top right, to enlarge)

Still no? Problem with the optical drive. The laser optical eye may be dirty. Use a disk cleaner, or a can of compressed air for computers.
(Remove ALL power before using compressed air. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery)

When I turn on my HP Pavillion dv6000 it starts up but when it gets to the screen where you type in your password its black with the cursor on it.

marissalynn5, use the Restoration Disk, and choose Non-Destructive Installation when asked. (Repair)

If you do Not have the Restoration Disk (CD);

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship. $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

Call HP Support's toll-free phone number 1-800-474-6836.
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Tell the representative that you need the Restoration Disk.
The representative may ask for the Product Number, or the Serial Number.

This is on the Bottom of the laptop in the white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number
S/N = Serial Number

Turn the laptop on, install the disk in the DVD optical drive, close the drive tray. Perform the above.

If you are not in the USA, here is HP Support Worldwide contact information,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/wwcontact_us.html

[ If I may. If you are not in the USA, and obtain the Restoration Disk, may I ask how support treated you, and the cost of shipping of the disk? Was the disk free? ]

If using the Restoration Disk does not cure the problem, then I have bad news.

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and dv9000 series, have an inherent problem with the graphics chip.

Elder parents have a 1 1/2 yr old HP Pavillion Series 4600. They are getting a black screen that reads "Disc Boot Failure Code HP-BIOHD2. Can you help me?

That means that the BIOS of the motherboard can't detect the hard disk = it has died. Replace the hard disk and reinstall.

How can I tell if my HP Pavillion dv6000 can burn DVDs? I tried to with DVD Flick but the dvd came out blank after 3 hours of supposed burning.

Try creating a normal CD-R for example just a picture using windows transfer which is simply double clicking your CD drive icon in my computer dragging a picture on to it then burn the files should be on the left, if so then your burner should be fine. I Would suggest using NERO to burn DVD's

Hi : I have a HP Pavillion a1218n (P4) computer that is about three years old. I would like to burn data to 8.5 GB Dual Layer - Single sided DVD storage media disks. My CD/DVD burner : burns, flip, burn...

Greetings,
Your dvd drive is not capable of burning a dual layer disc. You need to have a burner that is capable of sending the laser through to the second layer of the disc. That said you can get a DL burner for around 30 dollars. Click HERE to see one from Newegg.com.
I am not sure what you mean by 'burns, flip, burn dvds.' but if you make another comment I will respond.
Take Care,

Hp Pavillion zx5369 Notebook

Only mobo's available for it are that series and no other. It is a service/sales issue to get you to buy a new laptop. The other units in the series probably differ in onboard video and processor capability. The case in only built to accomadate theat board and display.
