Frigidaire washer control knob problem

Hi,

I am currently in the process of having my laundry roon remodeled. When my washer was taken out of the room, the control knob was caught on the door jam. I didn't think it did any damage at the time, and it worked fine after. However, now it is changing settings at will or even beeping and turning on as if I had pressed a button of turned the knob to activate it. Do I need to replace the entire control panel? Or, can I just replace the part for the knob? Also, how difficult would this replacement be? Can somoeone who is mechanically and electrically skilled do this?

Can I just replace the knob and its stem, or should I replace the control panel?

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

I found this parts manual for my washer. Can I just replace parts # 3 and 4 to fix this problem?
    ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo_PDF/Webster/5995464194.pdf

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

Would replacing the stem for the knob be a possible solution? I would rather not have to replace the entire board if I can help it. Or is the component that could be damaged inside the control panel?

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

It will beep occasionally. But if the knob is bumped, it will reset for a drain/spin cycle of 19 minutes. It seems to be very touchy as if there is a cross connection or short.

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

Could the problem just be loose connection or a wire that has been knockes loose? If I am understanding correctly, I should replace the control panel to fix the problem, right?

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

How difficult is it to remove and replace the control panel? I didn't see any screw holding it on. Are there clips that need to be removed first?

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

I there a repair manual that will indicate where the screws or clips are to remove the panel? I don't want to attempt to pry it off if it does not just pop on or off.

  • jjdkjdk Sep 08, 2008

Thanks everyone for all your help. I will see if there are any loose connections first. Then I will see if the knob and stem are the probelm. Finally, if I have to, I will replace the control panel. If I can, I will let you all know how it turned out. Thanks again.

You need to first check if the internal control board is fine...as you are saying its randomly doing all functions like beeping buzzing...there may be any short circuit...in that case you need to replace the whole module..

Check the link provided here to see a exploded view of the appliance.
You can contact them for parts availability. I do not think you will need to replace the entire panel but for sure the part where the knob is attached to(Timer/Selector Switch).

If you are electrically knowledgeable you can remove the control board and check for loose solder and or wire connections. Lastly you can replace the control since that is the brain of the appliance.

  • Jaime Hernandez Sep 08, 2008

Parts # 3 and 4 are only accessories that move the switches or contacts inside the timer/control. The part # 1 should be replace.

  • Jaime Hernandez Sep 08, 2008

Item # 24 should be remove first to get access ot the control panel. There should be some screws at the back of the top cover and this cover should have some snap in clips as well.

Hi

I think the problem wont be that much serious. Try any electrically skilled labour to check the knobs and get it replaced. Dont allow those who dont know about electrical/electronic things.

Thanks

I dont think, the whole contro pannel has to be replaced. But be sure you give to skilled labour to repair. As the problem should not become more complex.

My Frigidaire FLSE60RGS1 washer/dryer combo. the washer does not agitated it spins but doesn't do the washing movement stuff

Hi friend, I appreciate your post!

Based off the information you have provided regarding your Frigidaire laundry center it sounds like a possible problem within your control panel or agitator. Since it could be any one of these underlying issues I would recommend having a professional come out to your home to properly diagnose your washer. If you do not have a professional connection you can visit the manufacturer website to find a service provider in your area. Hopefully this is helpful. -Matt

How to diagnose washer timer not turning?

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand that the washer timer on your Frigidaire laundry center, model# GLEH1642DS, stopped turning and you want to know how you can diagnose this. Typically, this is not be a do it yourself repair, as there are no step by step repair instructions. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They have been trained on your appliance and should be able to diagnose it and determine what is causing the timer button to not turn. Hope this is helpful.

Frigidaire gallery series washer dryer stackable unit will not fill all the way

Hi Friend, this is Z. Thank you for your inquiry!

I understand that your Frigidaire laundry center will not completely fill. Here are a few troubleshooting tips that may help you get to the root cause:

First, disconnect power from your washer. It is good to wait roughly ten minutes and then turn on your laundry center? Did the issue persist? If so, a service technician may need to check the pressure sensor or switch to determine if it needs replacement.

If your water flow is abnormal, double-check water faucets to ensure they are in the "on" position. If on, your incoming water pressure may be above 30 PSI and could need adjusting. Check for any kinked or blocked water hoses or clogged water screens. If you've cleared the water screen and/or unblocked any kinked water hoses, and the problem still persists, it could possibly be a water inlet valve assembly.

If you have checked all of the above, your laundry center may need a main control board replacement. I would recommend contacting a qualified service technician to further assist you in diagnosing this issue.

Dryer timing button off

Hi - Are you referring to the dryer timer button (located on the far left side on most laundry centers) is broken? If so, you might need to replace the entire button. You can contact the manufacturer directly to get part or go through a part distributor but part numbers can be different.

Timer gets stuck on frigidaire front load washer

It appears that your timer is failing. The process to remove and replace the faulty timer is relatively easy to do with just some simple hand tools.

You should unplug the washer from the wall outlet before taking the top backsplash (control panel) apart. There are screws on the backside of the control panel, that you need to remove the back panel. Doing this will let you get to the wiring plug connector on the timer motor.

You'll also need to remove the timer/cycle knob on the front of the panel so you can use a socket (or a adjustable wrench) to remove the mounting nut and lock washer that holds the timer to the metal panel.

Once you have everything loose and accessible, all you need to do is unplug the connectors on the old timer and out them on the new timer and reinstall the lock nut and washer and button up the panel.

That shoud be all that's needed to get things working again.

Here's link showing a drawing of your washer along wtih the parts list (and prices) for parts.

The timer is part #134378400 and costs about $89.00

How to replace the selector control knob on a Frigidaire front load washer Model FWT449GFS2

Push-in center knob and and turn Counter Clockwise to loose it from the treaded shaft. Next, without Pushing in, continue turning CC till it comes off.

If necessary, remove the outer indicator knob by sqeezing the two release clips in the center. This knob is keyed to only go back on one way so you don't need to remember its location before removal.

Reverse the process to install new knobs.

Oh, if you need to replace the cam or timer which are behind these knobs, the front panel will have to be removed by first removing the top cover of the washer. Now you can access the six screws inside the washer and one in front behind the detergent dispenser.
