My StepNote today would not start. The fan only ran. Put in the vista HD still nothing. Reinstalled the XP HD still nothing. The problem seemed to start after the screen was opened with the computer powered up. It ruined my whole day. Tried many things many times. Went to show my wife tonight, and it started. In power options changed close screen to"do nothing".

The screen is black, fans running but no display, has come on a few times but then ends up doing the same thing

I was using the computer to check my email, I looked up for a minute and when I looked back down, the whole thing was locked up. I shut the computer down, after that, it would not start up at all, the screen remains blank and the fan runs. The HDD indicator light flashes twice briefly and that is it, no more laptop. A friend of mine told me to look for a BIOS reset switch, I have looked around on the board inside (haven't taken the entire thing apart yet though) I can't find any switches. I have heard of people trying a forced thermal reset with some success, but that seems like a last resort measure.

Same thing, though no one else mentioned that the keyboard doesn't work either when the screen's not working. Is this just me?

More importantly, I'm not under warranty, would they still be able to help me if I called tech support?

    Thanks for your help!

I Have Found a solution FINALY!!!! The xbox 360 towel trick. Just do it with your laptop, start it up and walla back to normal. For those of you who are not familier with this trick you have rap your laptop in a towel.. let it overheat and when it gets to a certain temperature it will turn off. Then turn it back on and WALLAA!!!!..

Everex Stepnote XT5000T has a known Mobo issue with several side effects including video card and wireless malfunction. This issue will be repaired by Everex (though with no guarantee of timeline) with a replacement of the Mother Board. Call customer support at the 888 number listed under your laptop, oh and dont let them tell you to take the battery out and push the power button ten times.. that will not solve the motherboard issue.

I have a everex stepnote XT5000T and the it turns on but the screen stays black.what could be the problem?

It may be that the display output toggle has been set to "external monitor" ... try Fn+F3 .... to toggle it from your screen, to external monitor to both ... and see if the screen works.
If this doesn't work, connect an external monitor to your computer, and toggle it, to see if the monitor displays the screen contents. If this works, then it's possible that your LCD screen is faulty ("fried")

Need XP drivers for Everex XT5000T

Here they are, xpdrivers for everex xt5000t please note, the first two from the lists are manuals not drivers.. you'll need to select the operating system type (32 bit or 64 bit). I hope it's 32 bit. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Wont boot no bios screen nothing

Check your memory card. Reseat or clean its edge connector with soft eraser.Do this after you shut it down properly , battery disconnected, and no any other power source is connected.

That is the first thing to suspect. Or try it also with a spare good ram card.
