Question about Lexmark X6170 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Lexmark X6170 will not print after cleaning of ink heads.

Cartridges have been cleaned and ink is at 3/4 full. What else can I do to get it to print correctly in color.

My printer will not print any color items. It doesn't seem to recognize the color cartridge. I have cleaned the cartridges. I also switched cartridges but the ink levels do not change. No matter how old or new the cartridge is the printer still shows it as 1/2 full on the ink levels. Any ideas?

How do i clean the heads on my lexmark x4580 printer the black is not printing but the colour is ok and the cartridge is full of ink cheers

  • Hello,

  • Most likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:

  • (1) Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over
  • (2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
  • (3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head and the electronic contacts on each ink cartridge.
  • (4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
  • (5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
  • (6) Try to print something now

  • If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:
  • (1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error
  • (2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced.

  • Thanks

I am unable to find color ink for my lexmark x6170. Additionally, are all the inks the same (quality)?

Lexmark X6170 uses these two ink cartridges: -
Black Print Cartridge (18L0032E)
Colour Print Cartridge (18LX042E)
It is highly recommended that you use the original cartridges as the cartridges and ink vary from printer to printer.
However, if you are unable to find the cartridges, you may look for refilling option.

DOCUMENT DOES NOT PRINT IN COLOR - INK CARTRIDGE IS HALF FULL

It sounds like you are using aftermarket or refilled cartridges. Aftermarket cartridges will sometimes gum up or clog the nozzles. To clear the sensors and nozzle, install new OEM cartridges, run deep cleaning a number of times (at least 3 times), and then the alignment utility.
Aftermarket/refilled cartridges do not always meet the manufacturer's specifications for quality. Try cartridges from LDproducts.com for your printer. I've never had a problem with their aftermarket cartridges.
Please rate this solution. Thanks.

My lexmark printer series 6170 will not print.

For the tech to give you that response was indeed to the point, but of little use to most people.

There is a nozzle cleaning utility in the Lexmark Solutions Center. Use that to clean the nozzles of your ink cartridges. The Lexmark Solutions Center is installed on your computer. You can find it in the Windows Start Menu under "All Programs" in a folder marked "Lexmark".

If your printer has been sitting without use for more than a few weeks, the nozzles may be too clogged with dry ink to clean by conventional means. The only thing left to do is to replace the ink cartridges.

Not printing...printer says remove or change ribbon

First you want to clean both the cartridges and the cartridge seats inside of the printer with warm water and a soft cloth (I use old t-shirts). After you've done that place the cartridges back into the printer and clean the printheads. You can do this by following the steps on page 83 of your user manual:

1) Load the paper
2) Press "Copy"
3) Press Options until Maintenance appears on the display.
4) Press the right arrow until Clean Cartridges appears on the
display.
5) Press Select. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the
nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
6) Print your document again to verify that your print quality has
improved.

You can also find information on cleaning the cartridges on pages 83 and 84 of your manual. If you don't have one available, you can download one at:

I hope this helps!

Printer doesn't print even with new ink cartridges.

Take out the Cartridge & get a new one if the problem persists then get the printer software reinstalled & if still it is not printing then clean up the cartridge head with cotton swabs dipped in hot water!
This should clean the head & black will be on paper

DO THIS AS FINAL REFUGE
If still its not working then there's some problem in the copper contact surface in the printer on the cradle so get a new Printer.
