Oh, your comment comes up at www.fixya.com in the All Products/Phones/Troubleshooting category as Generic Problem for All Phones with the subject line "The Telephone Is Not Working". Pretty specific huh :-)

I have a USR USB phone for Skype. I don't use it much, but it seems to work O.K. It has a blue lighted display and a handful of function buttons....USR 9601.

Perhaps if you posted your model number it would warn others to be careful.

My in house telephones are not working, but the internet is working.WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE THE TEELEPHONE WORK AGAIN.

Have you paid the phone bill? Are you supposed to have phone service?

Providing that you have a contract with the phone company and it's paid up, take a hardwire telephone out to the grey junction box on the outside of the house. Open the junction box and plug your phone into one of the two phone jacks inside, Try the phone. If you get no dial tone, try the other phone jack.

If you get no dial tone from either phone jack, borrow a hardwire telephone from a neighbor and try both jacks again with the borrowed telephone.

If no dial tone with your phone or your neighbor's phone, then the problem is on the phone company's side of that junction box.

If your neighbor's phone works but yours doesn't, the problem is your phones - lightening strike, maybe?

If your phone works in the junction box but not inside the house, then the wiring from the junction box to your house jacks has a bad connection somewhere. Someone - you or someone else - will have the arduous task of tracking down where that bad connection is.

First,to eliminate any confusion between you and any phone technician or electrician, phones plug into a "jack" and power plugs into an "outlet" and a light bulb plugs into a "socket" ;-)
Ok, now to answer your question, yes its very easy to move your phone line to any existing jack that you have in your house. This is a simple, physical job that only requires simple hand tools and shouldn't take a tech. more than 10 mins to do. you phone "number" is not effected in any way. if you have DSL or high speed internet through the phone company, then you really only need one jack not a secondary at the same place. DSL runs on the same phone line as your dial tone, just a different frequency. If you have other phone jacks in your house with phones plugged in then you just need filters to plug into those jacks and then just plug phones into those filters. They are small , about the size of a silver dollar. I assume you want your phone and computer with internet at the same place you were asking about. You don't need a filter there because your DSL modem has one built in .
You only have to worry about keeping your same phone number if you are moving out of town and want to keep the same number. This is possible. Its called "porting" a number. Its done in a dept. in the phone company that does dial tone programming. A coulple clicks on their computer and its ready for a technician to get it to your new house. Depending on the company there may be a charge.
I am a phone tech for the largest land line phone company in the U.S. and have been for 11 years and counting, so feel free to ask me any questions.

INTERNET AND CABLE WORKING BUT NO DIAL TONE ON PHONE, I RESET THE MOTEM, AND ONLY HAVE 1 PHONE IN THE HOUSE SO I KNOW IT IS HUNG UP CORRECTLY HOW DO I USE OR GAIN AXCESS TO USE THE PHONE?

I am assuming you have broadband (via your phone line) rather than dial-up internet access...

If so, this sounds like a fault with either your external phone line or a problem with the equipment at the telephone exchange.

Report the fault to your telephone service provider and get them to run a line test.

It is unlikely to be anything at you end.

Hope this helps,

Matt
